Principal’s Report
Welcome to the 2022 School Year
We extend a very warm welcome to school for all of our students for the 2022 school year. We also celebrate with many families the start of Prep for 104 very special little people. This is a very special milestone!
I extend a big welcome to our families and thank each and every one for your assistance with Back to School, including the dropping off of book packs. After a delayed start, the resumption of school for all students has been very smooth. There is something about the school routine for staff and students that brings consistency and a sense of normality that we all crave at this time.
We are very determined that this will be a wonderful year for our school and for every student. Our focus on engagement, well-being, learning, excellence and growth is stronger than ever.
Our teaching teams have been working hard from the holidays into some student free days and then with two additional weeks for the delayed start to prepare for a great year for their students.
There is much to look forward to for a wonderful 2022 school year ahead.
Our Community – Creating Futures
Every school uniform and school emblem contain the words ‘Our Community – Creating Futures’. As we think about our work, think about our students, we check to ensure that we remain on track against our school motto. There are many ‘2022’ ways that we work together as a community to create futures:
- We work together to create the sense of belonging to a great school and being proud of our wonderful community
- We work together with positivity, positive expectations, positive role models to inspire our young people
- We convey optimism and deal with life in 2022 to build resilience amongst our children
- We get back to high expectations, good routines and setting goals to create a strong sense of achievement
- We deal with the unexpected disruptions and impact of the pandemic but continue to value the importance of students in learning at school and growing as young people
- We will get through this period and the light on the other side will shine brightly for great future lives and wonderful futures for students
- We celebrate a Regional Commendation in the Network 10 Showcase Award for Excellence in Early and Primary Education in 2021
Coomera Springs Students
As our past students move onto junior secondary schooling, we often receive feedback on our past students. As a very consistent generalisation, past Coomera Springs students stand out in junior secondary as well behaved, caring young people who are very well prepared for the curriculum to come. Our students know how to learn, know how to set goals, seek feedback, understand assessment, understand success criteria to achieve. This also brings a sense of confidence and self-worth from being able to achieve.
We wish all of our recent graduates well in Year 7 over this fortnight. You are always Coomera Springs!
Current COVID measures
Please see the following additional measures in place for the start of school in 2022.
Our current additional COVID -Safe measures in place for the start of 2022
- Only fully vaccinated staff, contractors and volunteers permitted to work in the school from Monday 24 January 2022.
- Adults wearing a face mask in all indoor areas of the school with an exemption when teaching and able to keep 1.5m separation or as per other exemptions. Adults wearing a face mask outdoors if unable to maintain 1.5m separation.
- Students are able to access smaller size face masks and are supported if they choose to wear. We support all students regardless.
- Staff, students, parents, carers and visitors only coming into school when well. Stay home if you have symptoms or are required to isolate.
- Meetings moved to online, other large gatherings including assemblies cancelled, sport continues
- Our classroom air-conditioning units have all been serviced and filters cleaned prior to the start of school. Most rooms have mechanical fresh air devices and all have access to fresh air.
- We have positive case notifications to cohorts plus entire community 5-day summary notifications
- Additional cleaning and sanitising of surfaces on continual basis during school hours
Infrastructure Update
We update our community on some infrastructure improvements at the school since 2021.
We have a number of infrastructure works completed over the break or currently underway
- Our STEM Hub completed at the western side of the Resource Centre
- Replacement impact absorbing surface in Prep playground. This looks great!
- Our accessible walkway from the Tuckshop Undercover to the western carpark is under construction
- Work about to start on our Hall Storage Shed

Our community keeping everyone safe
We are all very aware that coronavirus has been and is circulating within our broader community. We acknowledge and thank many families doing the right thing in getting tested and isolating if positive. The school has a supply of RATs to be sent home with students who are referred to sick bay with symptoms. Coomera Springs families experiencing symptoms at home can access testing through HAAN Respiratory Centre (100m south of the school) or any testing centre or RAT supplier. Testing and isolating if positive is helping to reduce the spread of the virus at school.
Thank you for testing and isolating if positive or a close contact. This is important at this time.

P&C News
Welcome back to our staff and families from last year and a HUGE warm welcome to all new staff members and families of our wonderful school.
It has certainly been a commencement of the school year with a difference, however I am sure all have settled into their classes.

Fundraising
Easter Raffle – Donation Request
We are seeking donations of Easter Eggs, baskets or boxes for the upcoming Easter Raffle. Please refer to the flyer in the newsletter for all the details.
The Fundraising Group, will be seeking volunteers to assist with the packaging the baskets. Tickets will be available online shortly.
Thank you to families who have already dropped off their donations.
Family Movie Night
The Community Family Movie night that was postponed at the end of 2021 is now proposed for Friday night 13 May 2022.
Please keep an eye out for more information in the newsletter and on the school’s Facebook page.
The P&C will be seeking volunteers to assist on the night.
Help Wanted
To enable these events to be run successfully, the P&C will need to establish a Fundraising Committee. If you have or know someone who has the expertise in assisting and becoming part of the fundraising team, please let myself know. We all know that many hands can make the task easier. Should you be interested in volunteering your time to assist, please let us know via email at CSSS_PandC@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au
General Meeting
Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no February Meeting.
The Annual General Meeting date will be advised in the next newsletter.
At the AGM, all current Executive positions become vacant and a new committee is formed.
These positions include: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer.
Also sub committees will be established, eg: Fundraising. Our vision is that this committee meets separately to the general meetings. May be over a cuppa before, during or after school. A report will then be presented at the general meeting.
If you or someone you know may be interested in being part of a wonderful working term to raise funds for school projects, please let myself or Erin Nichols know. We can be contacted on CSSS_PandC@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au or information can be obtained from the P&C Qld website https://pandcsqld.com.au/ , or their Facebook site: https://www.facebook.com/pandcsqld/
Thank you everyone for your continued support with the P&C Assoc and please stay safe.
