Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we move into the last day of Term 3 would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful community for once again supporting the school, our teachers and most importantly your children. There certainly is never a quiet week or dull moment at Coomera Springs. For those lucky enough to attend Monday’s assembly I’m sure you would have been astounded to hear how many avenues our wonderful teachers provide for our students to succeed. This I am very proud of.
School Watch
During this period empty schools provide an opportunity for criminal activity, becoming targets for unlawful entry, arson, stealing, graffiti and property damage – all of which become a cost to the community.
The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce criminal activity in Queensland schools and encourages everyone to look out for after-hours crime in our schools. If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene. Call the School Watch number – 13 17 88
Let’s work together to help create safer school communities
Supporting your Child’s Wellbeing and Learning
When children have a strong sense of wellbeing, they experience greater success in learning.
Our school is strongly committed to enhancing the wellbeing of our students which is why we have a range of activities and supports across our school that help students feel and function the best they can.
This is part of a Queensland-wide recognition of the importance of wellbeing and is supported by a series of webisodes delivered by respected psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg. The short video presentations are available at the DETA website.

Real Men Read
A very big THANKYOU to our wonderful Coomera Springs Community for coming along and showing your support for our REAL MEN READ afternoon. We had some wonderful attractions, but the real focus of the day was gathering our community to celebrate and promote the importance of reading, and showcasing how very important male role models read and read every single day.

Coomera Springs Mathletics Invitational
On the 1st September teams of 4 students from each Year of grade 1-6 travelled to Movie World for the first Coomera Springs Mathletics Invitational event.

News from our Chaplain
Chappy News
It has been an awesome couple of weeks with the planning of the Mini Men Shed Program. So far we have had donations of various tools, bikes, scooters and even some work to work with the make things out of. Some of the boys have been keen as a bean to get involved and I am looking forward to an awesome time spent with these boys.
Food for thought
So this week I went and caught up with a friend in Brisbane and he took me to a place called Cup From Above. It is a café that works on the pay it forward philosophy. When you buy a coffee or a meal you have the option to pay for a coffee or meal for someone who is struggling financially or homeless. The owners are all about community and using what they have to help the people around them when they are in need. It got me thinking about how we too could be contributing to the community that we are in. We naturally desire community where we know that there are people who look out for us and vice versa.
So my challenge this week for all of us is to consider what impact are we going to have on our community?

Rowing club
On 9th September some students from years 4-6 that are involved in the school Rowing Program, went on an excursion to the Urban Rowing Centre in Brisbane. They were accompanied by our school rowing coaches – Mrs Harvey and Miss Talbot. A great day was had by all!!
- Students learnt specific stretches and core exercises for rowing.
- They went for a tour of Urban Rowing’s facilities.
- Wade showed students step by step the rowing sequences and students all had a go on the ergo’s showing Wade how they rowed.
- The ergo’s the students used were on ‘sliders’ which simulated a boat on the water. As they leg drive the whole ergo moved on the sliders.
- The students practised rowing in unison as the ergo’s were attached in a line by the sliders. This simulated a 5 person skull on the water.
- Wade showed the students the rowing tank, which is a rowing boat supported above two water tanks. This is a life like rowing boat and gave students experience in sitting in a boat. They practiced rowing with the oars.
- Following all the demonstrations the students split up into three groups, they rotated through the single ergo’s, team ergo and the tank.
- After lunch we walked down to Brisbane Girls Grammar boat shed on the Brisbane River. This is where Wade showed the group around the shed, discussed the history of rowing and took out a range of boats to show the students all the different sections and equipment.
