2023 calendar and important dates

The 2023 school calendar is now available to assist with planning the year.

Student Reports

Semester 2 Student Reports will be emailed home on Friday 9 December. Please take some time to celebrate growth and achievement of your student/s over this semester. It is also an opportunity to identify something to work on for the 2023 school year.

2023 Class Notifications

We will make available 2023 class lists on our school website ready for the 2023 school year. These lists are listed by the individual student identifier (EQ ID) code which is available from the Student Report. We recommend copying the EQ ID code from the student report and using the FIND function on the class lists to identify your student. You will also be able to access the map for the school to identify the location of the classroom.

This assists parents to locate classes for their student whilst also meeting the privacy requirements for our students.

We will have staff available on Friday 20 January and Monday 23 January to assist families and students to find our classes and classrooms.

We will update families of 2023 Prep and new students separately.

2023 Book Pack Drop Off and Classroom Orientation - Date Claimer

Book pack drop off and classroom orientation - Friday 20 January 2023, 2:30pm - 3:30pm

We look forward to welcoming all of our 2023 students and families to come along to school to drop off book packs to classrooms prior to the start of school.

This is an opportunity to locate your student's classroom and to drop off any heavy book packs and materials prior to school commencing. Your child will have less anxiety by knowing what to expect and who their teacher is. Class teachers will get to meet their students and families in an informal way prior to school.

This year, we are hoping that the vast majority of students will be able to come along on this afternoon to prepare for school.

Families will be able to drop off book packs for one or more children in any order during the time allotted to take the pressure off for the Monday morning.

First day of school - Monday 23 January 2023

For families who are able to come in for the Book Pack Drop Off, the start of school should be really smooth. Hopefully students will be able to be dropped off to their new classrooms where they will be welcomed and get to know about their class and new year level. There will then be an opportunity for parents to go for a cuppa and transition into the rest of their day.

The start of a new school year can be a stressful and emotional time. Our plans are for the start to be as smooth and successful as possible.

Looking back - 2022 School Year

This week marks the end of the 2022 school year. 2022 has a context of significant challenge for many. Many of us have been directly and indirectly impacted by a COVID variant and we had mandatory isolation earlier this year. Our friends and families in much of Australia have been impacted by the weather, including exceptional flooding in many areas. The world and economic situation have placed increased cost of living pressure upon families and we have had to work around both staff and student absences at a higher level than previously. We started the school year two weeks later and had to adapt to the situations at hand. 2022 has been challenging for all.

I want to acknowledge our staff, our families and our students for the outcomes that we have managed to achieve during 2022. Despite some re-scheduling at times, all special events, excursions, trials, incursions have been able to happen. We were able to celebrate with our families being present and students achieved at high levels and in high numbers across the spectrum.

Our learning results continue to improve and students are learning to higher levels. Students have had more areas of excellence to achieve in and have found success in traditional and new areas, such as the Spelling Bee. We celebrate these achievements as well as the many individual positive journeys and personal bests for our students.

I thank our wonderful staff for ensuring that our students have all opportunities and have been able to achieve beyond pre - COVID levels.

The 2022 school year has been a marathon and we all rightly feel tired, but we look forward to 2023 with optimism to make this even better than ever.

We have much planned for 2023 to further benefit our students and look forward to a more settled year ahead.

I take this opportunity to sincerely thank our staff, families and students for your hard work and achievements during 2022. The upcoming Summer Vacation will provide that opportunity to rest and recover after the year that was 2022.

To those who are moving on, we thank you and wish you all the best. To the many that will be travelling, we wish you safe travels. We wish everybody a very special time with family and friends and a very Merry Christmas.

Wishing all our families a happy and safe holiday period

See you all in 2023

News from our Guidance Officer

Holidays can be challenging. Without the daily routine that going to school provides young people, it can be easy to get into unhealthy habits. This can leave some feeling anxious, bored, unsupported and upset so it’s important to encourage your children to stay healthy and maintain healthy habits.

Staying Healthy Over the Holidays

Eat Well – having a good balanced diet with less junk food and sugar and more good things such as vegetables, fruit, wholegrains and water. This helps with sleep, energy levels and general health and wellbeing.

Sleep Well – getting a good night’s sleep helps you feel energised, focused and motivated. Developing a sleeping routine by waking up around the same time each day, getting out of bed when you wake up and going to bed around the same time each night will work wonders.

Be Socially Active and Get Involved – Social relationships are important for your general wellbeing. Spend time with friends to keep and build on existing friendships. Hobbies, clubs, sports etc. can help you feel connected to your wider community while also meeting new people.

Play – Play is important for staying mentally healthy. Devoting time to having fun can recharge your battery, revitalise your social networks and reduce stress and anxiety.

Staying Safe Online

Many young people’s internet usage and time spent on devices will inevitably increase over the holiday period. It’s important to ensure you and your family have safer and more positive experiences online during this time.

The Australian Government’s eSafety Commissioner website provides parents with advice on how to keep their children safe online. Visit at the link below for more -

P&C News

Thank you

The Coomera Springs State School P & C Association would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who have helped this year, at our events and in the tuckshop. We couldn’t do what we do without an army of volunteers to help. If you are interested in helping out next year, please get in touch, as we would love to hear from you.

We have had a wonderful year and held many successful events to raise money for the very important chain link walkways, that are needed to protect our students from various weather conditions, whilst walking the campus.

A big thank you to our families and the whole school community for getting behind our events this year, to make them successful. We thank you all for the continued support.

Farewell

We would like to say a farewell to all of our graduating Year 6 Students and their families. We wish you all the best for your future and continued success in high school. We hope you will look back on your primary school years at Coomera Springs with fond memories.

2023

We have some very exciting plans already in place for 2023, starting with the reopening of our cafe out the front the tuckshop in the mornings and afternoons. We will kick off on the first day back to term 2023 with a “Tim Tam and Tissues” informal event. Please come along whether you are a new family or current family for a coffee and a Tim Tam after drop off. This will be a great opportunity to meet the committee and other families, to have a breather, have a little cry or celebrate the return to school for 2023. It’s a great opportunity to meet the P & C committee and our wonderful Tuckshop staff Ang & Vivian.

We would like to wish all of our families & the school community a very wonderful Christmas and a happy and safe New Year.

On behalf of the Committee Merry Christmas!

Kelly
P & C President
