End of Year Events

We have many special events, incursions and excursions scheduled for the last four weeks of the school year. Please check class newsletters for the upcoming events particular to the year level for your students. Some of the major events are listed here within this newsletter. There is something on almost every single day until the end of the school year and we encourage all families to plan for the events, relevant to your own families.

Safety on Bicycles and Scooters

Active school travel is great for students who are old enough and capable enough to ride to school. Christmas is also a time when more of our students will be possibly receiving new or upgraded bikes, scooters or other rideables. Please ensure that all students who are riding have a well fitted helmet, know the recently changed road rules and are safe for themselves and other path/road users.

Please use the QR code below to access the most information on rideables.

Full student attendance can now resume

This month, we have taken a final big step towards resuming full school attendance for all students with the last COVID restrictions coming to an end.

  • Mandatory requirements to self-isolate after testing positive for COVID -19 have ceased.
  • Queensland Health has recommendations for anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 or with symptoms of acute respiratory infection. These align with normal good advice.
  • We invite and welcome healthy students to school every day.

All students are now expected to be at school every day unless they are unwell* or with another valid reason. We welcome you all back!!

*(including while UNWELL with COVID or acute respiratory infection symptoms)

Celebrate Success

We are really impressed with the achievements of our students across a range of fields.

We celebrate the great achievements in recent weeks in our slideshow in this newsletter. This fortnight, we highlight the Footsteps to Fame Winners, Student of the Week awards and recognition of students representing Broadwater District or South Coast Region in sports this year.

Attendance

We want your children at school

All schools in Queensland are committed to providing safe and supportive learning environments for all students to address their educational needs.

Research shows that in Queensland, higher student attendance is associated, on average, with higher student achievement. Additionally, attending school every day helps children to build social and emotional skills such as communication, teamwork and resilience. Attendance means not only attending school every day, but also arriving at school on time and remaining at school for the entire day.

From our close observations, students who are continually late, often become anxious about walking into a class that is already settled, hence creating a situation where the student would rather not come to school. The risk of missing instructions for core lessons is high and therefore is often disruptive to other students’ learning and settlement when a student enters the class late.

Under the law, you must make sure your child is enrolled and attends school on all school days, unless there is a reasonable excuse. Schools are mandated to monitor attendance of students and follow up with parents and caregivers for any unexplained absences.

At Coomera Springs State School, we aim for 93% Attendance Minimum. 93% Minimum means:

  1. No more than 13 days off every year
  2. No more than one day off every month
  3. Over the course of primary school, 93% minimum attendance means missing 3 ½ days over 1 Term
  4. Over the course of 13 years of schooling, 93% minimum attendance means missing 169days of schooling – that is nearly one full year of learning
  5. We believe that no more than 13 days of absence from school every year is more than reasonable for a healthy student

How to Report a Student Absence at Coomera Springs

Just a reminder that all absences must be reported to Administration by any of the following methods:

  • Leave a message on the school absence line Ph: 5519 5300 – dial 1
  • Email Administration admin@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au
  • Reply to the SMS message – please state your child’s name and reason for absence

You may also email your child’s class teacher, however Administration must be advised in order for your child’s absence to be recorded with the correct code.

Your assistance in following our absence procedure is greatly appreciated.

Instrumental Music Update

We would like to thank all Parents and Students of our Instrumental Music Program for a fantastic year of music making! We have had a very successful year and are looking forward to seeing all Instrumental Music groups perform at the Christmas concert Wednesday 23rd November.

If your child is currently using a school instrument, please note that these must be returned to the Music Department at the conclusion of the Christmas Concert on Wednesday 23rd November. Please ensure all personal items have been taken out of the case before handing in your instrument.

Beginners 2023

Our Beginner Strings and Band Programs are going to be amazing next year! Miss Williams (Strings) and Mr Alloway (Band) have been busily reviewing all applications from our talented Year 2 and 3 students, and before the end of the term letters of acceptance, enrolment contracts and loan agreement forms will be sent home for the successful applicants.

If your child is selected for Instrumental Music in 2023 please ensure the required paperwork is returned to school as soon as possible after you receive it, to allow us to set up the group timetables for next year. Keep an eye out also for an invoice from the Finance Office (this will be sent at the beginning of next year). Payment will need to be made before students can take home a hired instrument in 2023.
