Principal’s Report
Year 6 Camp
We celebrate our recent Year 6 Camp at PGL Adventure Camps - Kindilan. The students were able to be challenged on a range of adventure type activities. Students enjoyed the challenge and great feeling of achievement in being able to meet the various challenges at the camp. These are the type of special experiences that these young people will take with them for the rest of their lives. Thank you to our staff for making this camp happen.

School Review Feedback
Our school was recently involved in a scheduled full school review. Thank you to everyone who contributed in a variety of ways. We will receive the finalised reports by the end of this term and the Executive Summary will be published on the school website.
The following are some of the general findings that have been shared at the end of the review.
Classrooms are calm and orderly, and present as welcoming learning environments. Parents and students acknowledge the range of extracurricular opportunities offered by the school. They reference the school's excellence in music program, opportunities in school sport including gala days, and the school musical, as evidence of building a positive school culture across the school.
The school is held in high regard by students, parents and the local community. Staff members speak positively and proudly of the school. The school has established partnerships with parents, early learning centres, local high school schools, a cluster principals’ network, local agencies, an Indigenous Elder and community organisations for the purpose of improving opportunities and outcomes for students and building teacher capability.
The school has a significant partnership through the Barna Jarjum regional project to establish a cultural champion to strengthen understanding within the school community.
Regional NAIDOC Award for School
We celebrate the work of our school Barna Jarjum Committee which was recognised last week with a South East Region NAIDOC Award. These are a group of dedicated and committed staff members and indigenous students who work on cultural recognition, understanding and identity.
Term 2
This newsletter will mark the end of Term 2 and the first half of the 2022 school year. This term has continued a level of vigilance and challenge with the backdrop of the continuing worldwide pandemic, wet weather and critical staff shortages. We thank our community for your support and understanding as we work together to ensure that all planned activities were able to go ahead.
Term 2 started with ANZAC Commemoration and will finish with our School Athletics. In between, our students have been involved in many special events and opportunities: Year 1 Starlab,
Parent-Teacher Interviews, Music COE, NAPLAN, Fanfare, Full School Review, Life Education, Year 4 Camp, Year 6 Camp, Music Showcase, Kids Lit, Prep and Year 2 Swimming, P-2 Athletics, 3-6 Athletics, Kokoda Team Training, SRC Career Day.
Our focus on learning also continued over this term. Student Reports will be emailed home at the end of this week.
School holidays are often times for families to travel or spend time together. We wish all of our families a safe and special school vacation.
Please see the following dates for Term 3:
- School finishes for Term 2 on Friday 24 June 2022
- School resumes for Term 3 on Monday 11 July 2022
- State-wide Student Free Day scheduled for Friday 2 September 2022
Students continuing learning during the cold and flu season
We thank our school families for keeping their students away from school with symptoms. This is keeping our COVID rate down which is vitally important at this time. If your child has mild symptoms and is capable of completing learning tasks, we would like them to continue their learning until they can return to school. Students may be able to complete work on OneNote or via learning that can be emailed home.
These are exceptional times, but we would like to see all students continue their learning wherever possible.
Current COVID Measures – COVID Normal
The Queensland Government has announced the relaxation of some COVID measures from 4 March.
- All staff, contractors and volunteers fully vaccinated
- Face masks not required but encouraged and supported
- Mass gatherings and events can resume
- Restrictions on parents, carers and visitors eased
- All assemblies, incursions, camps and excursions can recommence
- We continue our day cleaner to continually sanitise high touch areas during school hours
- Students who choose to wear face masks will continue to be supported
- We maintain a supply of face masks to support staff and students who request
- Anyone who is unwell or with symptoms to isolate away from school and get tested
- We maintain a supply or RATs for unwell staff and unwell students to take home
- Close contact rules have changed as of 6pm on Thursday 28 April provided close contacts test negative and wear face masks may leave home.
Our community keeping everyone safe
We are all very aware that coronavirus has been and is circulating within our broader community. We acknowledge and thank many families doing the right thing in getting tested and isolating if positive. The school has a supply of RATs to be sent home with students who are referred to sick bay with symptoms. Coomera Springs families experiencing symptoms at home can access testing through HAAN Respiratory Centre (100m south of the school) or any testing centre or RAT supplier. Testing and isolating if positive is helping to reduce the spread of the virus at school.
Confirmed cases of COVID are occurring within our school community on a daily basis. Vigilance in keeping students with symptoms at home and getting tested is still the best way to contain the spread at this time. Thank you for testing and isolating if positive or close contact. This is important at this time.
Celebrate Success
We are really impressed with the achievements of our students. Students achieving well in their learning and across other areas such as sport.
We celebrate Year 6 Camp, Prep and Year 2 Swimming, Year 1 Paradise Country and Kokoda Kids Event Practice in our slideshow in this newsletter.

School Opinion Survey 2022
The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted in Term 3 and will close on 12 August 2022. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5, 6, 8 and 11) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.
An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one parent/caregiver per family in the week beginning 11 July. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2022. Check your junk email folders if you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone.

LATE ARRIVALS and EARLY DEPARTURES:
Explicit teaching begins at 8.40am and finishes at 3.00pm. Consistently arriving after 8.40am or departing before 3.00pm, may mean your child is missing quality learning time.
Arriving late, often means the class teacher has to stop the lesson, welcome your child, explain what they have missed and then return his/her attention back to the class who is trying to wait patiently.
Departing early, also means the class teacher has to stop the lesson, answer the call from the office, support your child to pack up belongings, and then return attention to the rest of the class who, again is waiting.
We believe that all of our students can achieve success at our school with our dedicated teaching staff, their expertise and research-based pedagogy but this can only happen if our students are at school, on time, learning every day.
We understand that some late arrivals and early departures are for legitimate reasons, but the effect remains the same.
