Principal’s Report
ANZAC Day Commemorations
A wonderful contingent of close to fifty students and families attended the Upper Coomera March and Commemorative Service on ANZAC Day. Despite the first rainy ANZAC Day in two decades, everyone turned out to give their respect on this special day.
The school ANZAC Day Commemorative Service continued a long tradition of remembrance for our school community. Our students were amazing in their behaviour as this was the first full P-6 assembly for this year. We are very proud of our community and our students on this special day.
We share some photos below of ANZAC Day at Coomera Springs.
Lifting the bar in learning of English
During last term, teachers spent several weeks collaborating on English planning for Term 2. 'Springs' teachers apply the most effective approaches possible to enable students to learn across speaking, writing, reading and viewing language. Our students can really learn to high levels and we have been impressed with the standard of writing being produced by our students.
Our purpose as a school is to create futures for students by improving learning and wellbeing outcomes for all students. Over time, it is our expectation that students will have good knowledge of what they are meant to be learning and what success looks like.
Current COVID Measures – COVID Normal
The Queensland Government has announced the relaxation of some COVID measures from 4 March.
- All staff, contractors and volunteers fully vaccinated
- Face masks not required but encouraged and supported
- Mass gatherings and events can resume
- Restrictions on parents, carers and visitors eased
- All assemblies, incursions, camps and excursions can recommence
- Students who choose to wear face masks will continue to be supported
- We maintain a supply of face masks to support staff and students who request
- Anyone who is unwell or with symptoms to isolate away from school and get tested
- We maintain a supply or RATs for unwell staff and unwell students to take home
- Close contact rules are changing from 6pm on Thursday 28 April provided close contacts test negative and wear face masks may leave home.
Current COVID Measures – School Camps and Overnight Stays
Our school has planned overnight camps for a number of year levels for this year. Due to their nature, these camps are a higher risk for COVID and the government have imposed additional requirements to ensure these camps can go ahead.
Parents and carers of students attending camp are expected to ensure their student is either symptom free AND/OR test negative on a RAT prior to the camp to be able to attend camp.
This looks like:
- The student is free of all symptoms and can attend camp.
- The student has very minor symptoms and tests negative on a RAT and does not have any contagious illness and can attend camp.
- Students experiencing symptoms during the camp are triaged at camp and sent home with a RAT supplied.
If a student is experiencing symptoms prior to the date of the camp, parents may obtain a RAT from school to conduct a test at home. (within 48 hours of camp)
Mothers' Day Stall
Our P&C will be operating a Mothers' Day Stall on Wednesday 4 May. This is both a wonderful opportunity for students to choose and purchase a gift for someone important in their lives and an excellent real-life learning experience in handling money.
Our current students are growing up in a world of contactless transactions, tap and go, click and collect and may have less real-life experience with currency, budgeting and calculating change. The Mothers' Day Stall is a wonderful learning opportunity for our students.
Thank you for your support of the Mothers' Day Stall.
Celebrate Success
We celebrate ANZAC Day, Year 4 Book Illustrator Visit, and Kokoda Kids in our slideshow in this newsletter.

Our community keeping everyone safe
We are all very aware that coronavirus has been and is circulating within our broader community. We acknowledge and thank many families doing the right thing in getting tested and isolating if positive. The school has a supply of RATs to be sent home with students who are referred to sick bay with symptoms. Coomera Springs families experiencing symptoms at home can access testing through HAAN Respiratory Centre (100m south of the school) or any testing centre or RAT supplier. Testing and isolating if positive is helping to reduce the spread of the virus at school.
Thank you for testing and isolating if positive or close contact. This is important at this time.
Mothers' Day
As Mothers' Day approaches, we honour the special people in our lives and the lives of our students.

NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 and is the only nationwide assessment that all Australian children undertake.
It’s a measure to see whether or not young Australians are developing the literacy and numeracy skills that provide the critical foundation for other learning, and for their productive and rewarding participation in the community.
All government and non-government education authorities have contributed to the development of NAPLAN materials.
NAPLAN tests the important skills that are essential for every student to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. The content of each test is informed by the Australian Curriculum. The literacy tests are based on content in the English learning area, and the numeracy tests draw content from the Mathematics learning area.
The On-line NAPLAN tests will be conducted in Week 4 of Term 2 between the 9th and the 13th. A more specific timetable will be released closer to the dates. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak with your classroom teacher.

Family Movie Night
The Community Family Movie night that was postponed at the end of 2021 is now proposed for Friday night 13 May 2022.
Information regarding the event are in the attached flyer and on the school’s Facebook page.
The P&C are also seeking volunteers to assist on the night.
To enable these events to be run successfully, the P&C will need to establish a Fundraising Committee. If you have or know someone who has the expertise in assisting and becoming part of the fundraising team, please let myself know. We all know that many hands can make the task easier. Should you be interested in volunteering your time to assist please let us know at the below email.

Next Meeting - Annual General Meeting
Our next General Meeting is scheduled for Friday 29 April at 3.15pm in the School Staff Room at the Resource Centre.
At the AGM, all current positions become vacant and the new committee is elected. The Audited Financial Reports are tabled.
These positions include: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer.
Also sub committees will be established, eg: Fundraising. Our vision is that this committee meets separately to the general meetings. May be over a cuppa before, during or after school. A report will then be presented at the general meeting.
If you or someone you know may be interested in being part of a wonderful working team to raise funds for school projects, please let myself or Erin Nichols know. We can be contacted on CSSS_PandC@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au or information can be obtained from the P&C Qld website https://pandcsqld.com.au/ , or their Facebook site:
