Principal’s Report

Term 1 Learning Update

We are getting back on track for our learning and programs for 2022.

At the time of penning this newsletter, school camps, excursions, sport, arts, incursions, events and excellence activities are on track where we want them to be for this year. With everyone’s assistance and cooperation, we can optimistically ensure that students will be able to do things that are expected for their year level. We still need to be flexible should things change but it is great to have our calendar of events full to benefit our students.

We should also feel confident that students will be able to learn the expected year level content during this year despite the disruption to Term 1 this year. This will happen over the course of the year as Term 1 units were adjusted and shortened.

While Term 1, 2022 was like no other term in living memory, we share the well-founded optimism that our students will succeed and learn like any other year. This is our determined goal and expectation.

Current COVID Measures – COVID Normal

The Queensland Government has announced the relaxation of some COVID measures from 4 March.

  • All staff, contractors and volunteers fully vaccinated
  • Face masks not required but encouraged and supported
  • Mass gatherings and events can resume
  • Restrictions on parents, carers and visitors eased
  • All assemblies, incursions, camps and excursions can recommence
  • Students who choose to wear face masks will continue to be supported
  • We maintain a supply of face masks to support staff and students who request
  • Anyone who is unwell or with symptoms to isolate away from school and get tested
  • We maintain a supply or RATs for unwell staff and unwell students to take home

Infrastructure Update

We continue to have infrastructure programs underway at the school to report on.

STEM Hub

Classes and groups have commenced using the new STEM Hub behind the Resource Centre. Students are also loving our new outdoor chess board.

Accessible Walkway to Tuckshop

Our accessible walkway is taking shape behind the tuckshop. We can now start to see how it can be easily used to gain access into the school from the western carpark and drop off area. There have been weather delays for this project.

We also have upcoming infrastructure programs to come: Hall Storage Shed and Prep Fencing.

Celebrate Success

Grade 6 Beach Day

We celebrate Year 6 Beach Day through our slideshow in this newsletter.

Our community keeping everyone safe

We are all very aware that coronavirus has been and is circulating within our broader community. We acknowledge and thank many families doing the right thing in getting tested and isolating if positive. The school has a supply of RATs to be sent home with students who are referred to sick bay with symptoms. Coomera Springs families experiencing symptoms at home can access testing through HAAN Respiratory Centre (100m south of the school) or any testing centre or RAT supplier. Testing and isolating if positive is helping to reduce the spread of the virus at school.

Thank you for testing and isolating if positive or close contact. This is important at this time.

Autumn School Vacation

The Autumn School Vacation commences on from Monday 4 April with Term 2 commencing on Tuesday 19 April 2022. We wish all of our families safe travels, special family time over the break and a Happy Easter.

Year 4 Music COE Excursion – Save The Date

Year 4 Music COE students (4C Class) will be travelling to Brisbane on WEDNESDAY 4TH MAY to watch a performance by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Permission notes for this excursion have been sent home this week.

Fanfare – Save The Date

Our Year 4 – 6 Instrumental Music students from Junior Band, Senior Band and Senior Strings will be performing at the regional heats of FANFARE (a music competition for Queensland state schools) next term. Senior Strings will be performing on FRIDAY 20TH MAY, and Junior and Senior Band will perform on MONDAY 23RD MAY. Keep an eye out for permission slips at the start of next term with the full details, including the session time in which each group will be performing. Audience members are most welcome to come along and support our groups!

Music Shirts – Clearance

The P&C have advised they still have remaining stock of Music Shirts from the old supplier (identical looking shirts) – these are available from the Tuckshop for $21 while stocks last. If your child’s size is not available at the tuckshop you are still able to order online via School Locker’s website.

Further details in next term’s newsletter with the exciting gifts that will be available for purchase.

Class timetable will be distributed early next term.

Family Movie Night

The Community Family Movie night that was postponed at the end of 2021 is now proposed for Friday night 13 May 2022.

Please keep an eye out for more information in the newsletter and on the school’s Facebook page.

The P&C will be seeking volunteers to assist on the night.

Help Wanted

To enable these events to be run successfully, the P&C will need to establish a Fundraising Committee. If you have or know someone who has the expertise in assisting and becoming part of the fundraising team, please let myself know. We all know that many hands can make the task easier. Should you be interested in volunteering your time to assist please let us know at the below email.

Volunteers are required in the TUCKSHOP

Angela in the Tuckshop is seeking assistance with volunteers to assist her and Viv in the Tuckshop.

Should you have a spare few hours and looking for some way to assist in your child’s school, please contact the School on 55195300 to be added to her roster. Or just drop by the Tuckshop and have a chat with Ang.

Next Meeting - Annual General Meeting

Our next General Meeting is scheduled for Friday 29 April at 3.15pm in the School Staff Room at the Resource Centre.

At the AGM, all current positions become vacant and the new committee is elected. The Audited Financial Reports are tabled.

These positions include: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer.

Also sub committees will be established, eg: Fundraising. Our vision is that this committee meets separately to the general meetings. May be over a cuppa before, during or after school. A report will then be presented at the general meeting.

If you or someone you know may be interested in being part of a wonderful working team to raise funds for school projects, please let myself or Erin Nichols know. We can be contacted on CSSS_PandC@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au or information can be obtained from the P&C Qld website, or their Facebook site.
