Principal’s Report
Term 1 Learning Update
Our families and our community have had to deal with a lot so far during 2022. It continues to be very tough for many in the community as they recover from the impact of natural disasters and it has been tough on members of our school staff as well. At our school, we recognise this as, we work to provide school routines, learning, optimism and a sense of belonging for all of our students.
The start of Term 1 has been impacted by COVID and floods. Please understand that our teaching teams are taking a yearlong view towards students covering the year level curriculum. We have in place a number of established processes and ways to adjust curriculum to deal with these situations.
We are not cramming in content by Easter but working across the entire year to cover all year level curriculum. Our experience over the last couple of years has shown us that students will be able to achieve equal to or better than for previous years. That is our goal every day and we are experienced, optimistic and focussed on this.
For parents and carers, there is nothing special that you need to do except to ensure that students who are well enough attend school every school day. We can catch students up when they are at school to meet or exceed year level expectations.
Current COVID Measures – COVID Normal
The Queensland Government has announced the relaxation of some COVID measures from 4 March.
- All staff, contractors and volunteers fully vaccinated
- Face masks not required but encouraged and supported
- Mass gatherings and events can resume
- Restrictions on parents, carers and visitors eased
- All assemblies, incursions, camps and excursions can recommence
- Students who choose to wear face masks will continue to be supported
- We maintain a supply of face masks to support staff and students who request
- Anyone who is unwell or with symptoms to isolate away from school and get tested
- We maintain a supply or RATs for unwell staff and unwell students to take home
National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence
This Friday, 18 March 2022, is the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA). Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative celebrates 12 years of action, connecting schools and communities to find workable solutions to prevent bullying.
The theme for 2022 is Kindness Culture. By building Kindness Culture together, we can promote inclusion, respect and community belonging for all students in schools across Australia.
Be kind online
The new animation series for the 2022 National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence, Be kind online, encourages young people to block content, report it, and support each other if they see or experience cyberbullying.
The series communicates to young people that it is important they know that they are not alone and help is always available.
Share these videos with your students and start a conversation to help identify, understand and respond to cyberbullying.
We share through this newsletter some suitable videos to share with your young people.

We celebrate Students of the Week and Student Leader Induction through our slideshow in this newsletter.

Our Community Keeping Everyone Safe
We are all very aware that coronavirus has been and is circulating within our broader community. We acknowledge and thank many families doing the right thing in getting tested and isolating if positive. The school has a supply of RATs to be sent home with students who are referred to sick bay with symptoms. Coomera Springs families experiencing symptoms at home can access testing through HAAN Respiratory Centre (100m south of the school) or any testing centre or RAT supplier. Testing and isolating if positive is helping to reduce the spread of the virus at school.
Thank you for testing and isolating if positive or close contact. This is important at this time.

Supporting the early development of our Prep students/ Notice of change to Prep precinct
As a school we are focussed upon the growth, development and learning of young children. Students join us straight out of Kindy, Childcare or from home and the Prep year is one of the fastest growth and development of all. As we move from play-based to more formal learning through an age appropriate way, we scaffold and support the needs of children towards progressively more independence.
We teach and support the academic, social and emotional growth of young children. These children are still learning about their environment and rely on adults to a great extent. These children learn about expectations, routines, turn-taking, sharing and being friends. As they learn, some young children need time to identify and manage their emotions in a safe space. Students are supported by a member of our team in a way that allows de-escalation and students being ready to learn or play.
We are making some small changes to our Prep environment to support co-regulation and safe play and movement for young children. These environmental changes include more clearly defined safe areas that can be opened up or closed down to support the needs and safety of students. The differences you will see will include fence lines and gates which can be used to support the safe co-regulation with adult support of little people. All students will continue to have free movement to access play areas, toilets, classrooms and will be able to move further into the school in a safe way. We are also defining with a fence line a buffer zone between Prep precinct and a busy arterial road as well as between the Prep space and remainder of the school campus. This is very much about supporting a safe space to progressively transition from a very well-defined Pre-Prep environment to the Primary environment supporting more movement and supported responsibility.
FAQ
Q. What will be
different?
A. We will install some fence lines on the
road-side and adjacent to the Prep playground with multiple wide gates to
support movement to and from Prep for parents and students.
Q. Will my child be able to visit the
toilet and drink bubblers?
A. Yes. Facilities are located in multiple points
within the Prep precinct. Students will be able to continue to move into
the rest of the school with wide gates that will mostly remain latched
open.
Q. Why are we doing this?
A. For student safety and to support safe
co-regulation for young students. The increasing business of Old Coach Road
and local businesses is an identified risk that we seek to mitigate.
Q. Have emergency situations been
considered?
A. Free movement is supported in emergency
evacuations to an established evacuation point. Gates to remain unlocked
for this purpose.
Q. Are there any other changes to
supervision and support?
A. Nothing else is changed. Students will
continue to be fully supervised at all times and some students supported as
needed. This allows for a safe and supportive space conducive to calm
co-regulation supported by a trained member of staff.
Please contact the school office if you would like more information.

Please keep an eye out for more information in the newsletter and on the school’s Facebook page.
The P&C will be seeking volunteers to assist on the night.
Help Wanted
To enable these events to be run successfully, the P&C will need to establish a Fundraising Committee. If you have or know someone who has the expertise in assisting and becoming part of the fundraising team, please let me know.
We all know that many hands can make the task easier. Should you be interested in volunteering your time to assist, please let us know at the following email address:

Next General Meeting
Our next General Meeting is scheduled for Friday 25 March at 3.20pm in the School Staff Room at the Resource Centre.
The Annual General Meeting date is still to be confirmed.
At the AGM, all current Executive positions become vacant and a new committee is formed.
These positions include: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer.
Also sub committees will be established, eg Fundraising. Our vision is that this committee meets separately to the general meetings. Maybe over a cuppa before, during or after school. A report will then be presented at the general meeting.
If you or someone you know may be interested in being part of a wonderful working team to raise funds for school projects, please let myself or Erin Nichols know. We can be contacted on CSSS_PandC@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au or information can be obtained from the P&C Qld website below or their Facebook site:
