Week 4 Learning Update
Four weeks into the 2022 school year and we continue to celebrate great learning routines, achievement and students happy at school. Our teaching teams have been working together to ensure students learn the expected year level content and we have processes in place to monitor every single student becomes literate or receives tailored support. We adapt to changing circumstances but retain a laser like focus on students learning. In 2022, we maintain our focus on learning, engagement, well-being and safety. We love our jobs and love our Coomera Springs community and we are all united on these students having bright futures and achieving to the highest possible level this year as much as any year.
Relaxation of some COVID Measures
The Queensland Government has announced the relaxation of some COVID measures from next week.
We maintain a COVID – Normal approach from next week
- All assemblies, incursions, camps and excursions can continue
- Adults, including staff not required to wear face masks but encouraged to do so in crowded situations
- Students who choose to wear face masks will continue to be supported
- We maintain a supply of face masks to support staff and students who request
- Anyone who is unwell or with symptoms to isolate away from school and get tested
- We maintain a supply or RATs for unwell staff and unwell students to take home
- Physical distancing continues to be encouraged to stop the spread
- We continue to support students coming into school independently where possible
Bikes, e-Bikes, Scooter and e-Scooter Safety
In addition to push bikes and scooters, we have instances of students bringing e-bikes and e-scooters enabling high speeds. Apart from being very valuable, these impose safety concerns for the rider and for others. Helmets are compulsory for riders, please check that your student wears a helmet. Additionally, these ‘vehicles’ should not be ridden through the front pick up zone or across the pedestrian crossings. Students may dismount and walk or exit via the bike pathways along the southern side of the school. If your child receives an e-bike or e-scooter as a present, please check to ensure the speed is regulated down to a safe speed (12 km/hr when using footpaths), and wears an approved helmet plus knows the rules.
OSHC Survey and Tender Process
I have made our parents aware that we are at the end of the extended tender period for our current OSHC supplier. Under the procurement guidelines, we are now required to start a new tender process to take up from mid-2022. The current provider, Camp Australia is able to re-tender through this process to be considered within the tender pool. As part of the tender design, we conducted a survey of parents and carers who would use an OSHC service. This information will be used as part of the tender process.
Parents provided a variety of opinions on the current OSHC service with strong support for the current service and current staff, although there was a mix of opinions.
Parents have rated our priorities that will now be considered in the tender process:
- Quality care 4.49
- Cost of the service 4.31
- Resources available at the service 4.27
- The program being offered 4.26
- The food available 3.87
- Extra-curricular, incursions and excursions 3.86
Quality care provisions is the highest priority as we begin our tender process. Our goal is to partner with a service provider to be the OSHC of choice for Coomera Springs students and families with a strong focus on quality care.
Students of the Week
We celebrate Students of the Week through our slideshow in this newsletter.

Our community keeping everyone safe
We are all very aware that coronavirus has been and is circulating within our broader community. We acknowledge and thank many families doing the right thing in getting tested and isolating if positive. The school has a supply of RATs to be sent home with students who are referred to sick bay with symptoms. Coomera Springs families experiencing symptoms at home can access testing through HAAN Respiratory Centre (100m south of the school) or any testing centre or RAT supplier. Testing and isolating if positive is helping to reduce the spread of the virus at school.
Thank you for testing and isolating if positive or close contact. This is important at this time.
