Principal’s Report
Term 4
Welcome back to school for the final term of 2021. Term 4 is a significant and busy term for schools as we start to plan for 2022 and many transitions for students. We also look forward to many school events and final student reporting at the end of this year.
Enrolments open to Prep 2021
We are currently taking enrolments for Prep to start in 2022. Enrolments are open to the siblings of existing students, families residing within catchment and a small number of out of catchment enrolments where we have capacity.
Please contact the school if you require any more information about Prep enrolments for 2022.
World Teachers' Day 2021
Australia will celebrate and thank the teaching profession on World Teachers’ Day on Friday 29 October 2021.
Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families, and communities.
We look forward to recognising all of our wonderful Coomera Springs educators for their role on Friday 29 October 2021.
GCCC ParkSafe patrols commence from 18 October
GCCC has notified us that new Park Safe vehicles will patrol our school area, ensuring that parking regulations are adhered to, from 18 October 2021.
Many car parks at schools, including at Coomera Springs State School are on GCCC land and are regulated by the Council.
We are aware that no school car park will ever have enough car parks for everyone which results in parking congestion close to 3:00pm.
One of the suggested strategies to avoid congestion when dropping off or collecting students is to try re-timing your drop off and pick up to spread out the peak times over a longer period of time. We support this as a school by providing student supervision immediately before and after school. You will find lots of congestion at 3pm but at 3:08pm or 3:11pm, there is much more space and you are likely to have a smooth run through. We supervise students during a window of time before and after school and encourage families to consider changing their drop off or pick up time by a few minutes or even ten minutes.
Please be aware that GCCC are launching a new system to monitor legal car parking in school zones.
The following information is provided by Gold Coast City Council. Any enquiries with regards to this should be addressed to GCCC.
Advice for parents, carers, guardians and drivers
The City of Gold Coast (City) wants to ensure that motorists comply with school zone road rules at and around schools to achieve a safer environment for children and the broader school community. These rules also help to optimise traffic movement and safety.
Please take extra care and obey the signed parking rules when parking on the roads and streets around the school.
Park Safe Vehicles - Licence Plate Recognition (LPR)
As part of the City Parking Plan 2015 to improve parking behaviour on the Gold Coast, City Parking Officers will soon patrol the city (including key school zones) using vehicles, clearly badged as “Park Safe” vehicles. These vehicles use Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) which is camera technology fitted to Park Safe vehicles to ensure motorists are parking safely.
Park Safe will operate on school days at student drop-off and pick-up times focusing on pedestrian areas around schools. If a vehicle is found to be parked illegally the City will issue an infringement notice to the registered vehicle owner by post.
Offences to be aware of:
- stopping 20 metres before or 10 metres after a sign posted crossing
- stopping 20 metres before or 10 metres after a bus stop
- stopping within 10 metres of an intersection or corner
- stopping within a bus zone (bayed area)
- stopping on a footpath or nature strip within a built-up area
- stopping in a way that restricts access to a driveway
- stopping on a yellow painted line
- stopping in a loading zone
- double parking for any period of time.
Park safely and legally to avoid a fine.

Continuing Learning and Engagement for Students with COVID- 19
Together we continue to take action to create a safe and healthy bubble for our beautiful students, staff, families and our community. We currently operate under Response Scenario 2. Our current operating conditions have restrictions easing but the continuation of our normal COVID-Safe routines and the wearing of face masks by adults and staff. Teachers are now able to remove their masks when teaching and seated if able to physically distance. Please continue to monitor updates as our COVID response can change very quickly.
Creating Bright Futures Together with teachers monitoring learning through formative assessment!
We continue a short focus on the innovating work happening at Coomera Springs to support learning for all students.
Teachers across the school check learning through Friday Testing program. These short tests help the teachers monitor the learning and to determine learning progress and learning gaps. Students will learn if they can. When teachers monitor student learning, they can determine learning progress and identify learning gaps.
Formative assessment helps students learn and practice with teachers using it to help identify gaps and to improve learning. This takes place during the semester.
Summative assessment is used to collect evidence of learning a skill, knowledge or proficiency, occurs at the end of the semester and is used to determine a rating for the student report.
Term 4 Reminders
The school is operating as normal for Friday 29 October - This is the rescheduled Ekka holiday in other LGAs.
Learning Excellence in 2021
We have a very full excellence program planned for 2021.
We share more of our students achieving excellence during the last fortnight. We celebrate Year 6 Street Science, Prep Hands-On Learning and Year 4 Beach Day.

How to Report a Student Absence at Coomera Springs
Just a reminder that all absences must be reported to Administration by any of the following methods:
- Leave a message on the school absence line Ph: 5519 5300 – dial 1
- Email Administration admin@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au
- Reply to the SMS message – please state your child’s name and reason for absence
You may also email your child’s class teacher, however Administration must be advised in order for your child’s absence to be recorded with the correct code.
Your assistance in following our absence procedure is greatly appreciated.
Class Placements for 2022
Class placement time for 2022 is fast approaching. We are commencing our processes to create balanced class groups for 2022 with significant and popular excellence classes and programs. Historically, Coomera Springs State School has been able to consider friendship requests from parents when putting students into classes for the following year.
The leadership team has carefully considered the best interests of the students and the school. Due to the reality that Coomera Springs State School offers an increasing number of excellence programs such as Music, STEM, and 1:1 iPad groupings, it is no longer viable to also consider individual friendship requests from families. Our dedicated teachers always have the best interests and knowledge of your children at the forefront of their minds. Many factors are considered, including knowledge of friendships, class dynamics, academic profile and class numbers when classes are formulated for the following year.
The only requests from families that we will be honouring for the formation of classes for 2021 will be if siblings or family members (cousins) are in the same grade. This information can be emailed to: classplacements@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au
Any emails received after the 13th of October, will not be considered.
We are hoping to be able to email families their child’s/children’s expected class and teacher for 2022 between the last day of school (10th December 2021) and the first week of the school holidays. Class lists will also be displayed for the first day of 2022. There will be STRICTLY no changes will be made to class placements unless there is an error around 1:1 iPad placement and sibling/family placements.
Prep Enrolments for 2022
Coomera Springs is now taking enrolments for Prep in 2022. If you have a little one born between 1/7/16 – 30/6/17 then they are due to start Prep next year! Please come and see our lovely office staff or check on our website for an enrolment pack. Parent Information and orientation sessions will begin late Term 3, so the sooner you can enrol the better!

Book Fair
Dear Parents and Carers,
BOOK FAIR is coming. It will be here from Tuesday 2nd of November until Friday 5th November. Each class will come through to view the fair and do their wish list to bring home and show you. We will also take photos of the shelves with titles and prices and send home so you can see what is available if you are unable to come and see the Fair. More information about opening times will be sent out later and will also be displayed on class windows and around the school.
It is a wonderful time to buy early Christmas presents or birthday presents.
It will be held in the library. Students will be able to purchase before/ after school and during lunchtimes.
Many thanks
Sue Marriott Teacher Librarian.

Thank you to the few volunteers who assisted with the recent Bunning Sausage Sizzle. with the recent Father’s Day Stall. Approx $900 was raised.
Thank you to everyone who made donations towards the sausage sizzle. (Gifts cards received from the postponed sizzle in July, where used towards the purchase of sausages and drinks.)
Without your help, this would not have been able to run smoothly. Special thanks to Angela and Vivienne in the Tuckshop for co-ordinating.
Special Thanks to all who have been contributing to our Pantry stock. Please keep the donations coming in.
Thank you also to Matt Healy for arranging a staff BBQ lunch for R U OK Day in September. The P&C supported Matt with the purchase of items towards the BBQ. Our school staff appreciated the opportunity to get together over lunch.

Big Battery Rescue
Dear Parents/Carers,
Just a reminder that we are still rescuing batteries from landfill and we need your help! There are only a few weeks left to send in all your old batteries so we can get them recycled. Remember, we will accept any of the regular household batteries (such as; AA, AAA…etc). However, please do not bring in car batteries as these are a safety hazard for students.
Each classroom has a battery bucket, there is one in the office and a large one in the library as well (blue with a red lid). You can stop in before school to drop off batteries for your child, or send them into school in a bag to be emptied into their classroom container.
Did you know? In Australia, each year over 300 million household batteries are thrown away with ordinary waste. Less than 3% are recycled meaning a staggering 14,000 tonnes of batteries end up in landfill.
Recycling your batteries allows us to stay in the running to win the 2021 National Schools Challenge! The weight of batteries we recycle will be measured and tracked so that we can share the fantastic results and the impact of our students with the whole community.
