Principal’s Report
Term 3
This newsletter brings to a close a very busy Term 3. I want to pay tribute to our school community for the belief and commitment towards our special school events that we have been able to hold, given restrictions in place. We started the term with our Kokoda Challenge, celebrated reading with Book Week and finished the term with Rocky Monster Show. We have also had a range of excursions, incursions and interschool sport activity this term. These have taken the support, belief and cooperation of everyone to benefit students.

Welcome to Chappy Gretel
We welcome Chappy Gretel as our new Chaplain for our school. Chappy Gretel comes to the school with relevant experience and qualifications as well as knowledge of the school. Students will see her about the school and adding to our student support team on Mondays, Fridays and every second Wednesday.
Rocky Monster Show
We are ecstatic that we were able to have a full two-night production of Rocky Monster Show last week. The overwhelming feedback is how great it was to showcase the talents and abilities of students. Thank you to our wonderful cast, our production team of school staff members, our P&C and our families for your support to make this happen.
We celebrate with you this wonderful event that students will remember the rest of their lives.
Smoke Free School and Surrounds
We remind everyone of the bans in place for smoking extend 5m beyond the school boundary. Thank you for your assistance with this.
Please see the following important information on the ParkSafe initiative by Gold Coast City Council.
Many car parks at schools, including at Coomera Springs State School are on GCCC land and are regulated by the Council.
We are aware that no school car park will ever have enough car parks for everyone which results in parking congestion close to 3:00pm.
One of the suggested strategies to avoid congestion when dropping off or collecting students is to try re-timing your drop off and pick up to spread out the peak times over a longer period of time. We support this as a school by providing student supervision immediately before and after school. You will find lots of congestion at 3pm but at 3:08pm or 3:11pm, there is much more space and you are likely to have a smooth run through. We supervise students during a window of time before and after school and encourage families to consider changing their drop off or pick up time by a few minutes or even ten minutes.
ParkSafe Initiative by Gold Coast City Council
Please be aware that GCCC are launching a new system to monitor legal car parking in school zones.
The following information is provided by Gold Coast City Council. Any enquiries with regards to this should be addressed to GCCC.
Advice for parents, carers, guardians and drivers
The City of Gold Coast (City) wants to ensure that motorists comply with school zone road rules at and around schools to achieve a safer environment for children and the broader school community. These rules also help to optimise traffic movement and safety.
Please take extra care and obey the signed parking rules when parking on the roads and streets around the school.
Park Safe Vehicles - Licence Plate Recognition (LPR)
As part of the City Parking Plan 2015 to improve parking behaviour on the Gold Coast, City Parking Officers will soon patrol the city (including key school zones) using vehicles, clearly badged as “Park Safe” vehicles. These vehicles use Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) which is camera technology fitted to Park Safe vehicles to ensure motorists are parking safely.
Park Safe will operate on school days at student drop-off and pick-up times focusing on pedestrian areas around schools. If a vehicle is found to be parked illegally the City will issue an infringement notice to the registered vehicle owner by post.
Offences to be aware of:
- stopping 20 metres before or 10 metres after a sign posted crossing
- stopping 20 metres before or 10 metres after a bus stop
- stopping within 10 metres of an intersection or corner
- stopping within a bus zone (bayed area)
- stopping on a footpath or nature strip within a built-up area
- stopping in a way that restricts access to a driveway
- stopping on a yellow painted line
- stopping in a loading zone
- double parking for any period of time.
Park safely and legally to avoid a fine.

Continuing Learning and Engagement for Students with COVID- 19
Together we continue to take action to create a safe and healthy bubble for our beautiful students, staff, families and our community. Our current operating conditions have restrictions easing but the continuation of our normal COVID-Safe routines and the wearing of face masks by adults and staff. Please continue to monitor updates as our COVID response can change very quickly.
Creating Bright Futures Together with students able to see their own learning progress!
We continue a short focus on the innovating work happening at Coomera Springs to support learning for all students.
Teachers across the school share aspects of the curriculum expectations with their students in student friendly language. Students will learn if they can. When they know with precision what it is that they are working on and then know what success looks like they are more likely to improve quickly. In some classes, teachers also share their marking criteria which also assists students to achieve at high levels.

How to Report a Student Absence at Coomera Springs
Just a reminder that all absences must be reported to Administration by any of the following methods:
- Leave a message on the school absence line Ph: 5519 5300 – dial 1
- Email Administration admin@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au
- Reply to the SMS message – please state your child’s name and reason for absence
You may also email your child’s class teacher, however Administration must be advised in order for your child’s absence to be recorded with the correct code.
Your assistance in following our absence procedure is greatly appreciated.
Class Placements for 2022
Class placement time for 2022 is fast approaching. We are commencing our processes to create balanced class groups for 2022 with significant and popular excellence classes and programs. Historically, Coomera Springs State School has been able to consider friendship requests from parents when putting students into classes for the following year.
The leadership team has carefully considered the best interests of the students and the school. Due to the reality that Coomera Springs State School offers an increasing number of excellence programs such as Music, STEM, and 1:1 iPad groupings, it is no longer viable to also consider individual friendship requests from families. Our dedicated teachers always have the best interests and knowledge of your children at the forefront of their minds. Many factors are considered, including knowledge of friendships, class dynamics, academic profile and class numbers when classes are formulated for the following year.
The only requests from families that we will be honouring for the formation of classes for 2021 will be if siblings or family members (cousins) are in the same grade. This information can be emailed to: classplacements@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au.
Any emails received after the 13th of October, will not be considered.
We are hoping to be able to email families their child’s/children’s expected class and teacher for 2022 between the last day of school (10th December 2021) and the first week of the school holidays. Class lists will also be displayed for the first day of 2022. There will be STRICTLY no changes will be made to class placements unless there is an error around 1:1 iPad placement and sibling/family placements.
Prep Enrolments for 2022
Coomera Springs is now taking enrolments for Prep in 2022. If you have a little one born between 1/7/16 – 30/6/17 then they are due to start Prep next year! Please come and see our lovely office staff or check on our website for an enrolment pack. Parent Information and orientation sessions will begin late Term 3, so the sooner you can enrol the better!

Thanks to our Musical parents for supporting rehearsals and performances, and to ALL the staff (an enormous list this time!) who helped behind the scenes. Also, sincere thanks to all who assisted with the Canteen sales at the School Musical that was held last Friday and Saturday evenings. Approx $750 was raised.

Special Thanks to all who have been contributing to our Pantry stock. Please keep the donations coming in.
Bunnings Sausage Sizzle -- Sunday 3 October 2021
Volunteers are required for the upcoming Bunnings Sausage Sizzle at the Oxenford Store on Sunday 3 October 2021. We are aware that this is during the School’s Spring Vacation and the long weekend. Unfortunately, we have no control over the selected date. If you have a spare hour to assist on the day, please let the school know. Please see the link below to register. Thank you in advance for your support.
The Sausage Sizzle that was planned for the Winter vacation, was cancelled due to the COVID restrictions at the time and the Committee will be using the Gift Cards that had been donated for the purchase of bread, sausages, onions etc.
If you are unable to help on the day, but would like to contribute to the fundraiser, there will still be items that are required to be purchased. Sauces, serviettes etc. Please drop them off the Tuckshop and speak to Angela or Vivienne.
All donations are appreciated.
