Principal’s Report

State -wide Student Free Day - Friday 3 September

The school will be closed with Camp Australia operating

Children's Book Week

This year, more than ever, we loved celebrating Children's Book Week in a big way. Despite some unfriendly weather and updated COVID restrictions, the Book Week Parade was a lovely celebration of all things reading across the school.

We also had a range of other Book Week related activities that occurred in classrooms.

Learning to read is one of the most important things that we do at our school. Reading opens us imagination, entertainment, knowledge and information. Students know that they can read a book, their Ipad, signs and even the side of cereal boxes. At the school, we start with 'learning to read' and then transition into 'reading to learn'.

We can read in our bedroom, in the car, on the bus or in the garden. Reading and books can take us away into Old Worlds, New Worlds and Other Worlds.

Thank you to families for your help in supporting our Book Week last week.

Continuing Learning and Engagement for Students with COVID- 19

Together we continue to take action to create a safe and healthy bubble for our beautiful students, staff, families and our community. Our current operating conditions have restrictions easing but the continuation of our normal COVID-Safe routines and the wearing of face masks by adults and staff. Please continue to monitor updates as our COVID response can change very quickly.

Rocky Monster Show

Term 3 is all about Rocky Monster Show. We are all very excited and looking forward to it!

Ticketing is open for the full production at UCSC.

https://www.trybooking.com/BSYDN

(Please see below news from our Music Department for further details)

Everything is on track for a full audience for this production. Adults wearing face masks and seated.

Creating Bright Futures Together with students able to see their own learning progress!

We continue a short focus on the innovating work happening at Coomera Springs to support learning for all students.

Teachers across the school have information up on their classroom walls that enables the students to see their own learning progress. Students are used to starting at the bottom and moving up into different levels as they progress on their learning. Students love that they are able to move beyond their own starting point. Often the starting point is determined by a pre-test before the learning actually starts.

In many cases, students go to the wall to identify what they have to do to move up to the next step. Students will learn more and be engaged and motivated when they can visibly see their own learning progression.

How to Report a Student Absence at Coomera Springs

Just a reminder that all absences must be reported to Administration by any of the following methods:

  • Leave a message on the school absence line Ph: 5519 5300 – dial 1
  • Email Administration admin@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au
  • Reply to the SMS message – please state your child’s name and reason for absence

You may also email your child’s class teacher, however Administration must be advised in order for your child’s absence to be recorded with the correct code.

Your assistance in following our absence procedure is greatly appreciated.

Class Placements for 2022

Class placement time for 2022 is fast approaching. We are commencing our processes to create balanced class groups for 2022 with significant and popular excellence classes and programs. Historically, Coomera Springs State School has been able to consider friendship requests from parents when putting students into classes for the following year.

The leadership team has carefully considered the best interests of the students and the school. Due to the reality that Coomera Springs State School offers an increasing number of excellence programs such as Music, STEM, and 1:1 iPad groupings, it is no longer viable to also consider individual friendship requests from families. Our dedicated teachers always have the best interests and knowledge of your children at the forefront of their minds. Many factors are considered, including knowledge of friendships, class dynamics, academic profile and class numbers when classes are formulated for the following year.

The only requests from families that we will be honouring for the formation of classes for 2022 will be if siblings or family members (cousins) are in the same grade. This information can be emailed to: classplacements@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au.

Any emails received after the 13th of October, will not be considered.

We are hoping to be able to email families their child’s/children’s expected class and teacher for 2022 between the last day of school (10th December 2021) and the first week of the school holidays. Class lists will also be displayed for the first day of 2022. There will be STRICTLY no changes will be made to class placements unless there is an error around 1:1 iPad placement and sibling/family placements.

Prep Enrolments for 2022

Coomera Springs is now taking enrolments for Prep in 2022. If you have a little one born between 1/7/16 – 30/6/17 then they are due to start Prep next year! Please come and see our lovely office staff or check on our website for an enrolment pack. Parent Information and orientation sessions will begin late Term 3, so the sooner you can enrol the better!

P&C News

Fundraising News

Thank you to the wonderful ladies who assisted with the Father’s Day Stall on Wednesday. Without your help, this would not have been able to run smoothly. Special thanks to Angela and Vivienne in the Tuckshop for co-ordinating.

Special thanks to all who have been contributing to our pantry stock. Please keep the donations coming in.

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle -- Sunday 3 October 2021

Volunteers are required for the upcoming Bunnings Sausage Sizzle at the Oxenford Store on Sunday 3 October 2021. We are aware that this is during the School’s Spring Vacation and the long weekend. Unfortunately, we have no control over the selected date. If you have a spare hour to assist on the day, please let the school know. The link to register will be out shortly. Thank you in advance for your support.

The Sausage Sizzle that was planned for the Winter vacation, was cancelled due to the COVID restrictions at the time and the Committee will be using the Gift Cards that had been donated for the purchase of bread, sausages, onions etc.

If you are unable to help on the day, but would like to contribute to the fundraiser, there will still be items that are required to be purchased. Sauces, serviettes etc Please drop them off the Tuckshop and speak to Angela or Vivienne.

All donations are appreciated.

P&C Executive Committee Members

We still currently have vacant Executive Committee Member positions. We are still seeking to fill the positions of:

  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Fundraising Committee Members

If you or someone you know may be interested in being part of a wonderful working term to raise funds for school projects, please let myself or Erin Nichols know. We can be contacted on CSSS_PandC@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au or information can be obtained from the P&C Qld website or their Facebook site:

https://pandcsqld.com.au/

https://www.facebook.com/pandcsqld/

To enable these events to be run successfully, the P&C are wishing to establish a Fundraising Committee. If you have or know someone who has the expertise in assisting and becoming part of the fundraising team, please let the Executive know. We all know that many hands can make the task easier. Should you be interested in volunteering your time to assist please let us know at the above email. Our vision is that this committee meets separately to the general meetings. May be over a cuppa before, during or after school. A report will then be presented at the general meeting.

Again, please let the Executive know if you are interested.

Next P&C Assoc Meeting:

Our next Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 8 September 2021 - 3.20pm in the Staffroom at the Resource Centre. All are most welcome to attend.

Thanks everyone and please stay safe.
