Gold Coast Show Public Holiday - Friday 27 August 2021
The school and Camp Australia will be closed for the public holiday
National Science Week
This week, we celebrate National Science Week. We celebrate Science Week within classrooms across the school this week. At a Prep and Primary level, science is about the science around us to understand the world. There is science everywhere- in the kitchen, in the garden, the way things work and making sense of the world.
We also know that our STEM/STEAM subjects including Science are the keys to help with the work of the future.
If you are interested in National Science Week, more information is available on their website , Facebook and other social media channels.
Continuing Learning and Engagement for Students
Together we continue to take action to create a safe and healthy bubble for our beautiful students, staff, families and our community. We currently have very strict restrictions in place in order to protect our community at this time. I sincerely thank our community for making this work to support us to continue the learning and engagement of our wonderful students. Despite the restrictions in place, we have loved seeing our students back at face to face learning and playing at school.
As a school, we try to prepare for the known contingencies to keep things going and I also thank our amazing staff who have had to teach from home and school and make many adjustments in extremely short timeframes.
A lot of changes have been implemented over weekend periods and our dedicated staff have met on the weekend to plan out responses ready for the next day. This time in history has demanded a lot and our staff, students and families have been amazing and supportive every step of the way. Thank you.
The government has been concerned about the spread of Delta strain in Brisbane metro schools.
We have restrictions in place until 4pm Sunday, 22 August:
- Restrictions on parents, carers, visitors and strict conditions for contractors at the school
- Restrictions on excursions, incursions, assemblies and interschool events
- Restrictions on curriculum events with more than one year level
- All adults wearing face masks
- Primary students not required to wear face masks but supported if they do
At the time of this newsletter, we are yet to know our operating guidelines and restrictions for next week and will communicate these when they are known.
Rocky Monster Show
Term 3 is all about Rocky Monster Show. We are all very excited and looking forward to it!
Ticketing is open for the full production at UCSC . (Please see below news from our Music Department for further details)
Rehearsals have been modified to year level groups and our full rehearsal has been postponed to allow for full cast participation. Watch this space as we work together to present Rocky Monster.

Creating Bright Futures Together with students checking in with their teachers every day during home learning!
We continue a short focus on the innovating work happening at Coomera Springs to support learning for all students. Our teachers work to ensure that student know what they are expected to learn. Students have learning goals and know what success looks like. In many classes, students look at the learning criteria or GTMJs which helps them to understand what their next step is. In many classrooms, students can access learning walls to help them keep on track with their learning in as precise a way as possible. Parents might hear their student talk about 'understanding perspective', use of 'sub-headings' or 'topic sentences' to help make their learning as clear as possible.
Term 3 Reminders
Please be aware of the following dates on the school calendar for our school.
Gold Coast Show Public Holiday – Friday 27 August (Camp Australia and school closed)
State-wide Student Free Day – Friday 3 September (school closed for students, Camp Australia tbc)
COVID – Response - Restrictions in Place
We currently have restrictions in place.
The COVID restrictions are changing rapidly. At the time of writing, we currently work with restrictions in place. Further changes and updates are communicated via email and also on the school Facebook page.
Learning Excellence in 2021
We have a very full excellence program planned for 2021.
We share more of our students achieving excellence during the last fortnight. We celebrate National Science Week and Funky hair styles and crazy socks day. (We are repeating a couple of photos over as this fortnight has been limited in school events and lockdown)

P&C Executive Committee Members
We still currently have vacant Executive Committee Member positions. We are still seeking to fill the positions of:
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Fundraising Committee Members
If you or someone you know may be interested in being part of a wonderful working term to raise funds for school projects, please let myself or Erin Nichols know. We can be contacted on CSSS_PandC@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au or information can be obtained from the P&C Qld website or their Facebook site:
https://pandcsqld.com.au/
https://www.facebook.com/pandcsqld/
To enable events to be run successfully, the P&C will need to establish a Fundraising Committee. If you have or know someone who has the expertise in assisting and becoming part of the fundraising team, please let the Executive know. We all know that many hands can make the task easier. Should you be interested in volunteering your time to assist please let us know at the above email. Our vision is that this committee meets separately to the general meetings. May be over a cuppa before, during or after school. A report will then be presented at the general meeting.
Again, please let the Executive know if you are interested.
Next P&C Assoc Meeting: 8 September 2021 commencing at 3.15pm in the Resource Centre. All are welcome to attend.
Until next time, please stay safe.
