Principal’s Report

Home Learning

This newsletter is heading out during a period of home learning due to SEQ Lockdown. Our school is in a much better position to support home learning based upon our experience during 2020. In our review following the 2020 period of home learning, we discovered that there were many lessons learnt that we can apply this time round.

In 2020, we discovered:

  • Once students returned to school, we revised content and were able to catch up over the year. Our 2020 learning outcomes in English and Maths are as strong or stronger than previous years.
  • Many students enjoyed the on-line collaboration space as they learned new 21st Century skills.
  • Many students loved being able to work more at their own pace.
  • Students really appreciated their families and were grateful for their teachers and friends at school.
  • There were ways we were able to bring our community together when apart.
  • The focus for home learning is on engagement, routine and well-being first and foremost.
  • Whatever happens, we look forward to our students returning and we will work to catch up so they don't miss out.

Please feel assured that we accept best efforts without families feeling overwhelmed. Our learning materials were prepared for use in school and they are there to be used and modified if necessary to suit the student. We can and will catch up when all of the students are back at school.

Rocky Monster Show

Term 3 is all about Rocky Monster Show. We are all very excited and looking forward to it!

Ticketing is open for the full production at UCSC. (Please see below news from our Music Department for further details)

Rehearsals are on pause this week. Once the Lockdown is lifted, we will work on these resuming towards the production date. Watch this space as we work together to present Rocky Monster.

Creating Bright Futures Together with students checking in with their teachers every day during home learning!

We continue a short focus on the innovating work happening at Coomera Springs to support learning for all students. Our focus during home learning is to maintain engagement and student well-being. During home learning, there are different ways to check in with your teacher. Many teachers have a daily check in page in the Classroom OneNote inviting students to check in as well as welcoming them to the day. Checking in each day is important to help the teacher know how the student is going.

Term 3 Reminders

Please be aware of the following dates on the school calendar for our school.
