Principal’s Report
Inter-house Athletics
We are very much in the season of winter sport and athletics carnivals. It is great to see the wonderful efforts achieved in our running events, field events and tabloid sports. We are really grateful that these events can go ahead with spectators this year after some disruption last year. Every student is on their own individual journey in sport and athletics, and we congratulate effort and improvement for students.
Podium presentation photos have been posted to our Facebook page.
Congratulations to our 2021 Athletics winning House: TUGAI

Student Attendance
Students who have good school attendance receive maximum learning and social time with their buddies across the school day. They are establishing valuable life habits and routines, setting them up for future success in life.
We understand that there are legitimate reasons for students being absent from school, particularly if they are unwell. We also have families who take time to travel or visit family elsewhere. These are all legitimate reasons for students to be absent if the number of days can be kept to a minimum. Days off school as a result of sleeping in, traffic problems or because it is Friday, soon become a habit that starts to impact upon learning and engagement at school. We are here to help if your child is reluctant to come to school. Please reach out as we might be able to provide support.
Thank you for your help in ensuring that students attend school every day, arrive on time and do not leave early unless there is a valid reason or it is a rare occasion. This helps students to gain success and establish valuable habits for life.
Creating Bright Futures Together with students showing grit!
We continue a short focus on the innovating work happening at Coomera Springs to support learning for all students. Students grow by being appropriately challenged. Teachers help students to identify their current levels and what they need to work on to get to the next level. Students love seeing how they can achieve and grow as young people.
The combination of characteristics known as GRIT has been shown to have more of a determination of future success for students than intelligence, skill or even grades.
Angela Duckworth, a psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania, renowned TED speaker, and bestselling author of Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, first began studying grit as a seventh grade math teacher. In 2007, she published a landmark study on grit and is now considered a leading expert on the subject.
Duckworth's research has focused on students who've shown long-term success in their academic and life trajectories. She found that a combination of grit as well as self-control, reliance, and ambition were the most reliable predictors of a positive outcome, rather than intelligence. The kids who won the spelling bee, for instance, weren’t necessarily smarter than their peers; they just worked a whole lot harder at studying the words.
Duckworth found that grit matters more for those in reach of their full potential than intelligence, skill, or even grades.
As adults, it is heartbreaking to see our children struggle or become frustrated. We can, however, run the risk of trying to solve all their problems, when a little struggle is what is needed to develop the very characteristics we would want for them in future life.
Some guidelines for parents in supporting GRIT, can be found here.
