Principal’s Report

Parent – Teacher Interviews

It was wonderful to see so many parents and families come along for the Parent-Teacher Interview sessions on Monday evening and also at other times this week.

Please be aware that you are able to contact your child's teacher if there is anything that needs to be covered in greater detail.

I know that there is much to acknowledge and celebrate with regards to the learning progress and work of our students at school.

Depending on the age of the student, it is ideal if they have one or a very small number of things to work on in the immediate future. They will need to know what this looks like and also receive support to achieve it.

Monday evening was a slightly different approach to parent-teacher interviews. Thank you to the parents who provided feedback. This approach was supportive of families with their time and also for families with more than one student at school. It also enabled teachers to be structured in an efficient and effective way to support each child.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

May is Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month

In May, we are reminded once again that domestic and family violence (DFV) is never acceptable. We all have a role to play in bringing an end to domestic and family violence. There are actions we can all take:

  • modelling appropriate behaviours, for example, resolving conflict
  • recognising DFV when it occurs, including gender-based comments that are disrespectful of women
  • knowing what support is available through external support services
  • engaging in appropriate intervention strategies (when it is safe to do so)

More information

More information on Domestic and Family Violence is available here. This also includes information on Coercive Control and Psychological and Emotional Abuse.

(WARNING: This contains information that may be disturbing, raise individual responses and may not be suitable for children. Domestic and family violence helplines)

Student Road Safety

From time to time, we receive reports of concerns for students on the road on their way to and from school. We ask parents to please check that your child/ren are:

  • Wearing approved helmets when riding bikes and scooters
  • Riding safely to and from school
  • Aware of what to do when crossing a road
  • Riding or walking directly to and from school safely

Creating Bright Futures Together with students setting goals and challenging themselves during Cross Country!

We continue a short focus on the innovating work happening at Coomera Springs to support learning for all students. Students grow by being appropriately challenged. Teachers help students to identify their current levels and what they need to work on to get to the next level. Students love seeing how they can achieve and grow as young people.

During the recent School Cross Country, students challenged themselves to achieve results beyond their previous attempt. This took physical capability, as well as determination and perhaps some strategies to ensure endurance across the entire distance for a big finish. We are proud of every student who finished and achieved a new distance or achievement.

Students also enjoyed working together towards a challenging goal with the cross country. To achieve this, they experienced some sense of challenge to push themselves in an achievable way.

Congratulations to our school place getters and Broadwater District Team.

How to Report a Student Absence at Coomera Springs

Just a reminder that all absences must be reported to Administration by any of the following methods:

  • Leave a message on the school absence line Ph: 5519 5300 – dial 1
  • Email Administration admin@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au

Date Claimer: Music Showcase Evening

The CSSS Music Showcase Evening will be held on Wednesday 9th June at 5:30pm in our school hall. This will be a very exciting evening of music and entertainment. All of our Instrumental Music Ensembles (Band and Strings) will be performing, as well as our Junior Choir, Ukulele Band, Drumline and Music Centre of Excellence Classes! This is a great opportunity for parents of potential Instrumental Music students to come along and see what the program has to offer. Our whole school community is invited to come along and enjoy some wonderful entertainment!

School Musical 2021 – The Rocky Monster Show!

Rehearsals for the musical are now in full swing, with the whole cast busily learning songs and dances and the lead actors working on 2 scenes so far! We are very happy with how the musical is progressing. This week students in the musical also tried on sample sizes for their musical shirts, and were measured for their costumes. At the Week 6 assembly we will be announcing a Musical Colouring Competition (for Prep – Yr 2 students) and a Musical Poster Design Competition (for Year 3 – Year 6 students), so if your child has a talent for drawing or colouring, keep an ear out for what to do. Students do not have to be in the Musical to get involved with the Colouring and Poster Design.

Year 4 and Year 5 Music COE Symphony Orchestra Concerts

Our Year 4 and Year 5 Music COE students were fortunate to be able to travel to Brisbane recently to attend a concert by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Year 5 COE students experienced “Lights, Camera, Action!” which featured music from films such as The Incredibles, The Man from Snowy River, Star Wars and more! Year 4 COE students had the pleasure of hearing “Sounds like … An Orchestra!” which included an excerpt from the Peer Gynt Suite (In the Hall of the Mountain King) and music from Harry Potter. We were very proud of the way our students conducted themselves on these excursions, and their enthusiasm for the experience was evident.
