Principal’s Report
P&C Annual General Meeting
A shout out for parents and community members interested in volunteer roles within our P&C.
The Annual General Meeting of our P&C is now scheduled for Wednesday 24th March. As per the constitution, all executive positions will be up for nomination and election for the 2021 school year. We now call for interested Coomera Springs parents and citizens to consider nominating for positions. Please contact me for more information.
Creating Bright Futures Together with students working on reading goals!
We continue a short focus on the innovating work happening at Coomera Springs to support learning for all students. Depending on the year level, your students may talk about some things that happen in the classroom that sound mysterious. Students in Years 1 – 6 will mostly have a reading goal that they are working on. Your student should know what their reading goal is as they make visible steps forward in the long journey towards being excellent readers.
Parents can ask their students (in Years 1-6): What are you learning in reading? How are you going with this? This can assist them to see that learning to read is important.
We also celebrate achievement in our Literacy Pro - Home Reading Program. This program is really good towards students reading more books to improve.
Students will learn if they can. We help them by setting goals, and helping them see their next learning step to improve their work. Where this happens, it is very motivating, as they visibly see their work improving.
Students need to be challenged to grow, learn, and become confident and resilient in a supportive environment. In 2021, we work to create bright futures together.
We are currently at Response Level 1 – COVID Normal

"More For Some = Equity" School Noticeboard Message
State primary schools across Queensland, whose leaders are members of the Queensland Association of State School Principals, are this week displaying on their school noticeboards the message: More For Some = Equity. This coordinated advocacy is part of our ongoing effort to raise awareness and understanding of our new advocacy document – "Reimagining Education in Queensland's State Primary Schools".
State primary schools embrace the responsibility to provide children with the academic and social foundations to discover and fulfil their potential. In our school communities, each child’s identity and culture are celebrated; personal responsibility is encouraged and expected; and resilience built.
Children, in their foundational school years, explore their sense of right and wrong, form independent relationships, and begin to understand themselves as contributing members of the local and wider community. In Australia, despite the critical importance of the foundation learning that primary schools deliver, the primary years, in particular Years 3 to 6, remain the lowest funded per capita of all compulsory year levels.
We know that those who require the greatest assistance – our disadvantaged and vulnerable children - are concentrated in Queensland’s state school system. These children require the highest level of funding.
When we observe schools at work, comments are often made in regard to whether students are receiving equal access to resources – both human and financial. The better question to consider is whether students are receiving equitable access to resources.
The words "equity" and "equal" are sometimes used interchangeably. "Equal" means the same – perhaps in terms of quantity, degree or value, whereas "Equity" when viewed through the lens of education, is unequal treatment of some learners to ensure every learner has an equal chance for success. When operationalised within a school, this looks like different groups of students receiving different support and different resources. It is the capacity of school leaders to apply human and financial resources based upon need, which enables equity of outcomes for students.
If Queensland's state primary schools are to equip our 340,000 students with the skills and mindsets to thrive in increasingly complex global workplaces, it is imperative that the resources provided enable true needs-based decisions to be made.
Learning Excellence in 2021
We have a very full excellence program planned for 2021. Unfortunately, our Term 1 Gala Day was cancelled due to wet weather, but will be rescheduled for our catch up day in Term 4.
We share more of our students achieving excellence during the last fortnight. We celebrate Girls Touch Football and our Week 6 Assembly.
Congratulations to Rocky L for his achievement in the Interschool Chess Tournament.

Prep – Year 2 Easter Hat Parade
Our Junior School students will have their Easter Hat Parade on Thursday 1st April, at 9am in the School Hall. The Easter Hat Parade will feature a performance from the Junior Choir, and year level performances from Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 classes.
Parents and carers are welcome to attend the performance – a maximum of two adults per student will be able to attend under our Covid Safe Plan.
Parents/carers are to enter the hall through the foyer and watch their children perform, then exit the hall after their child’s performance. This includes the Junior Choir performance, as it involves students from a few year levels. Please exit the hall immediately after the performance, via the rear doors, to allow other parents to watch their child’s performance. This will meet our Covid Safe rules.
Parents/carers who are listed on our school data base from enrolment will not need to sign in. Other extended family members will need to sign the sheet in the hall foyer. All adults attending the Easter concert are reminded to physically distance themselves 1.5m apart.
School Musical 2021 – The Rocky Monster Show
Thank you to all students who have worked hard to prepare for Group and Solo Singing Auditions in the last two weeks.
In Week 9 we will have our Round One reading auditions. All students auditioning for speaking roles have been given short script excerpts to prepare. If your child has not received their script please email Mrs Alison Murray amurr51@eq.edu.au
We will have CALL BACKS for lead roles (to be advised after Round One auditions have been completed). This process will be completed before the end of term so that we can announce our cast!

PANTRY ITEMS FOR THE TUCKSHOP
If you are interested in volunteering some of your time in the Tuckshop or at P&C events but are unable to do so, we have come up with a way for you to help.
Below is a list of Pantry items, and all we ask is for one or as many as you like, to be donated to the School Tuckshop pantry. This way this will cut the spending costs and allow more of the profits to be returned to the school.
Items can be either home brand or name brand and dropped off to the School Tuckshop.
Thank you for your support, as it is all about our children in our school community.
