Principal’s Report
P&C Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of our P&C is scheduled for Wednesday 10th March. As per the constitution, all executive positions will be up for nomination and election for the 2021 school year. We now call for interested Coomera Springs parents and citizens to consider nominating for positions. Please contact me for more information.
Creating Bright Futures Together With Students Referring To Star Levels!
Depending on their year level, students may talk about things happening in the classroom that sound mysterious. At Coomera Springs, students make their learning visible by using star levels in Maths. Our learning target for the year is at the 3 star level and students are pre-assessed against that level. Students learn that a 1 or 2 star level is fantastic, as they have time to learn and reach the year level expectation of 3 star. If they are working at a 3 star level, this is also fantastic as they have met the year level expectation and can work on going beyond expectation to a 4 star level. Students at a 4 star level look to apply their learning in complex and unfamiliar situations, which is well above year level expectation.
Students learn a lot in a year and this is why we are here. Your child might talk about 3 star, 4 star, 5 star. They may well strive to achieve the 5 star level, but please understand that 3 stars is the expected level for the year, and is absolutely fine.
Students will learn if they can. We help them by setting goals, and helping them see their next learning step to improve their work. Where this happens, it is very motivating, as they visibly see their work improve.
Students need to be challenged in order to grow, learn and become confident and resilient in a supportive environment. In 2021, we work to create bright futures together.

Music News
School Musical 2021 – The Rocky Monster Show
We have spent the past few weeks busily learning song and dance in preparation for the first round of Auditions, which will commence next week.
Here’s the plan:
In Week 7 (next week) everyone who is auditioning for the Musical will have the opportunity to show the teachers the group song and dance they have learned.
In Week 8 (the following week) the students who are trying out for SOLO SINGING ROLES in the Musical will be given the chance to perform their audition songs. We will also give out script excerpts for the students preparing for SOLO SPEAKING ROLES.
In Week 9 we will have our Round One reading auditions (all students auditioning for speaking roles will be given short script excerpts to prepare)
We will have CALL BACKS for lead roles (to be advised after Round One auditions have been completed). This process will be completed before the end of term so that we can announce our cast!
If you have any questions about the audition process please email Mrs Alison Murray amurr51@eq.edu.au
Music Shirts
Our performing ensembles look amazing in their Music Shirts. If your child is in Band, Strings or Choir now is the time to order your Music Shirt for 2021 – available from the uniform shop with ordering via Flexischools. Music Shirts can be worn to school as a uniform option on Thursdays this year.
P&C News
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you are well and settling in to the new year. We understand that with a new year comes many financial commitments, particularly over the first few months. I will be asking the school to consider making all parents and carers more aware of the payments and fees that are due, as early as possible, to allow for families to plan ahead.
Tuckshop
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Tuckshop. Whilst fundraising activities are still being planned, your support in keeping the balance sheet heading in the right direction is appreciated. If you would like to help out in any way please contact Angela, Vivienne, or the school. Any assistance is appreciated.
Fundraising
Consideration of fundraising activities is underway, however with a change of Executive Committee it may be a little while before events are planned and communicated to the community. Last year the Committee elected to keep fundraising ‘in-house’ which saved money in fees and payments to external providers, so it is up to us to keep these activities going. If you have any ideas or can offer your time and assistance, please let us know via the email address on the CSSS Website or at: CSSS_PandC@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au.
External Audit
As mentioned previously, the external audit on the overall financial management, governance, financial controls and probity of funds entrusted to the association for the year ending 31st December 2020, is underway. All going well, this report will be completed and made available in time for the AGM and made available for the community to peruse as they so require.
Call for P&C Executive Committee Members
As you would have heard from the school and in this section of the previous newsletter, we are seeking interested and dedicated members of the school community to become a member of the CSSS P&C Executive Committee. Check out the P&C Qld website, or their Facebook site. for more information.
https://pandcsqld.com.au/
https://www.facebook.com/pandcsqld/
Positions available include:
- President
- Vice President
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Committee member
I often hear people say how the committee and the school may or should do things better, so if you, or someone you know wants to make a difference, please consider volunteering for a year as a committee member. The outgoing committee will help any new members transition in to the roles. Please contact any of the committee members or myself if you have any questions: pandcpresident@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au.
Meetings
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) and monthly General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 10th March 2021 at 3:30 pm in the Resource Centre. All are welcome to attend.
Thankyou!
This will be my final Newsletter as a member of the executive committee and I would like to say thank you to the staff at the Tuckshop, and members of the committee for their assistance. A particular mention should be made of Kirsty Duncan who has been a wonderful support to me over the past year or so. Kirsty has been a committee member for almost two years, which should be commended.
It has been a privilege to be the CSSS P&C President for the past year. 2020 was an extraordinary year with Job Keeper payments that kept the P&C ‘alive’ as well as limited and reimagined fundraising opportunities. It was also a time to find closure and move on from past events, for many members of the school community.
On behalf of the committee, we wish you and your children the very best in your future endeavours.
Sincerely,
Darren (President)
On behalf of the CSSS P&C Executive Committee

PANTRY ITEMS FOR THE TUCKSHOP
If you are interested in volunteering some of your time in the Tuckshop or at P&C events but are unable to do so, we have come up with a way for you to help.
Below is a list of Pantry items, and all we ask is for one or as many as you like, to be donated to the School Tuckshop pantry. This way this will cut the spending costs and allow more of the profits to be returned to the school.
Items can be either home brand or name brand and dropped off to the School Tuckshop.
Thank you for your support, as it is all about our children in our school community.
