P&C Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of our P&C is scheduled for Wednesday 10th March. As per the constitution, all executive positions will be up for nomination and election for the 2021 school year. We now call for interested Coomera Springs parents and citizens to consider nominating for positions. Please contact me for more information.
Creating Bright Futures Together – Bumping It Up
Depending on the year level, your students may talk about some things that happen in the classroom that sound mysterious. At Coomera Springs, many classrooms have information on their walls to assist students. They might have reading goals or other goals that they are working on. They may also have a helpful display called a ‘Bump it Up’ wall. In the example shown, this assists the students to identify a way to ‘bump up’ their writing to a higher level. This is designed to assist students achieve at a high level against the marking guide or rubric.
Students will learn if they can. We help them by setting goals, and helping them see their next learning step to improve their work. Where this happens, it is very motivating as they visibly see their work improving.
Students need to be challenged to grow, learn and become confident and resilient in a supportive environment. In 2021, we work to create bright futures together.
Enrolment Update
Our school Day 8 enrolment count was 855 students from Prep to Year 6. This number determines our staffing levels. We will have some minor staffing changes to work through, however, these will not affect classes.
We are currently at Response Level 1 – COVID Normal
COVID – Normal Classroom Arrangements
Parents/Carers welcome into school at this Response Level
Parents/Carers recorded on OneSchool for contact tracing or signed in at office
Maximum room capacity is 26 adults (including all staff)
Do not enter if unwell, experiencing symptoms or returning from declared Hotspots
Physical distancing of 1.5m inside and outside classrooms
Limit drop off time in room – 5 minutes
1 out and 1 in
We encourage student responsibility for own belongings as much as possible to develop independence.
Cooler Cleaner Schools Program
All classroom spaces have operating air conditioning at the time of writing this report.
Work has continued on classroom air conditioning, including eight classrooms where air-conditioning was commissioned under electrical ‘load management’ temporary solution until an internal and external upgrade can occur by late March. We are hopeful that this will allow the commissioning of air conditioning for the Resource Centre, Staff Room and Administration Building.
More upgrades and cage installs are still to come.
All of this work is funded 100% by the state government and project managed externally to the school.
Learning Excellence in 2021
Through the amazing support and cooperation of our entire school community, we were able to ensure continued learning excellence at Coomera Springs during 2020. 2020 was a successful year for Coomera Springs students. Our students improved across all measures in English and Mathematics during 2020. Considering 2020 was a reduced academic year and with the support of families during learning at home, students achieved better in 2020 than 2019 in our focus areas. Our wonderful teachers are assisting students reach high levels of achievement with many more students than before achieving an A or a B.
We have a very full excellence program planned under COVID Response Level 1. We have camps booked for Year 4 – 6 students, Gala Sports, 2021 School Musical, Representative Sport, Kokoda Kids Challenge and other events to come, across the areas of Sport, the Arts, Leadership, STEM and Chess, to name a few.
We have had a number of sign-up sessions and try outs, with many students signing up for more than one area of excellence.

EDSCO Bike Prize for Springs’ Student
Congratulations to Year 2 student, Eli who sports a brand new bike as part of the lucky draw from the EDSCO Bookpack Promotion. It’s great to see this prize arriving within our school community. Thank you to all our families who ordered their back to school packs through EDSCO.

Music News
Instrumental Music News
We are pleased to welcome our new Band Teacher, Mr Matthew Cook to the Music Department of CSSS. Matthew met with the Band students last week, and we are looking forward to having him at our school on THURSDAYS in 2021. All Band students should now have their timetables for lessons and Junior/Senior Band rehearsals, which commenced this week.
As our Band and Strings Programs are both up and running, all students should have had their first Iesson for the year (some have had more than one), and received all the necessary paperwork for enrolment and instrument hire if applicable. Please ensure this paperwork is returned ASAP and all levies paid. Parents, please also check your child’s lesson and Band/String Ensemble rehearsal days and times (especially the Before/After School commitments) and remind students to bring the necessary equipment each week. We are off to a great start for 2021!
Junior Choir Prep – Year 2
Sign Up Day for our Junior Choir was held on Thursday 11th February, and so far we have approximately 70 children from Prep – Year 2 wanting to be in our 2021 Junior Choir, which is absolutely wonderful! Parents whose children have already signed up should have received an email this week, with information about our planned performances for the year. Some students may not have heard about the Choir before the Sign Up Day, but it is not too late for them to join!
If your child would like to be a part of the choir and you did not receive an email, please email Mrs Alison Murray amurr51@eq.edu.au so your child can be added to the list, and so you can receive the information email. The Junior Choir will be rehearsing on Thursdays at first break in the Hall.
NB: Children who were in the Junior Choir last year will need to sign up again if they still want to be included, as the Choir lists do not “roll over” from year to year.
Performance Groups For Years 3 – 6
We have some fantastic performance opportunities for our older students this year.
Ukulele Band (Friday 2nd break) Year 3 – 6 learn to play popular songs on the ukulele with Mrs Murray.
Drumline (Thursday 1st break) Year 4 - 6 BY AUDITION – see Mr Lewerissa and sign up to audition for the drumline.
If you have children in Years 3 – 6 encourage them to come along and get involved!
School Musical 2021 – The Rocky Monster Show
We were so excited to see over 100 students at the Sign Up for Musical Auditions! If your child in Year 3 – 6 has missed the sign up it’s not too late, but they do need to hurry! Send Mrs Alison Murray an email amurr51@eq.edu.au so we can make sure they don’t miss out.
We will be having “Audition Preparation” sessions on TUESDAYS at Second Break for the next few weeks, to learn the songs and moves for the audition. Parents should have received an information email regarding the Musical this week, so if your child has signed up and you didn’t get an email please let us know!
PS: Our School Musical Cast will also perform as the Senior Choir for our school Anzac Ceremony next term. They will be singing “Lest We Forget” for the school service.
Music Shirts
Our performing ensembles look amazing in their Music Shirts. If your child is in Band, Strings or Choir now is the time to order your Music Shirt for 2021 – available from the uniform shop with ordering via Flexischools. Music Shirts can be worn to school as a uniform option on Thursdays this year.

PANTRY ITEMS FOR THE TUCKSHOP If you are interested in volunteering some of your time in the Tuckshop or at P&C events but are unable to do so, we have come up with a way for you to help. Below is a list of Pantry items, and all we ask is for one or as many as you like to be donated to the School Tuckshop pantry. This way this will cut the spending costs and allow more of the profits to be returned to the school. Items can be either home brand or name brand and dropped off to the School Tuckshop. Thank you for your support, as it is all about our children in our school community. CSSS P&C Ass. |
