Principal’s Report

2021 at Coomera Springs State School

We welcome our incoming Prep cohort

We have been very excited to welcome our 2021 Prep students and their parents to our Prep Transition events at the school recently. These wonderful little people are really ready for their formal schooling to commence in a few weeks’ time. We very much look forward to seeing these little faces about the school over the next seven years. Due to border closures this year, we are extending our enrolment cut off for a little longer to support our local families and new families to the area. Please call the school on 55195300 for any Prep enrolment enquiries.

Please see video below with some of our new Prep students

2021 Class Allocation

Families will be able to access 2021 class allocations through the school website by Friday, 13th December 2020. To meet student protection and privacy considerations, class lists will identify students via their individual EQID code (no names). This code contains a combination of numerals and letters and will be available through the student report.

When we used this method for class lists last year, parents found it convenient and easy. We will forward an email which will contain step by step instructions and links to class lists and the school map. All the necessary details will be provided when the lists are available.

2021 School Calendar

The 2021 School Calendar is available here.

Air Conditioning Update

Our school is fortunate to receive the installation of classroom air conditioning before many schools on the Gold Coast. We now have air conditioning units installed in every classroom. Whilst the majority of these units are now operational, we have been made aware that an electrical upgrade is required before some units can be operated. The appointed project manager is coordinating this upgrade and keeping us updated. We expect more information on this by early next week and will keep families informed.

We work together to maintain a COVID-Safe bubble for Coomera Springs in 2020.

As an entire school community, we need to continue to implement the various modifications and restrictions on the way we do things to keep our school community safe, and our school operating. Guidelines have eased some restrictions for schools:

  • We have received confirmation that dancing can be included in our Year 6 Graduation
  • Monitor all Queensland Health Advice and Directives
  • Do not enter the school if unwell – students, staff, parents and visitors.
  • Get tested with symptoms.
  • Adult social distancing inside and outside the school and restricting access to school areas.
  • Hygiene and frequent sanitisation.
  • We work together on this, including some live streaming of events, to keep things happening for students where we can
  • We have commenced inviting parents to significant student milestone events with a COVID Checklist

Learning Excellence in Term 4

Through the amazing support and cooperation of our entire school community, we have been able to ensure continued learning excellence at Coomera Springs during Term 4. We have around 26 special events and excellence programs scheduled for Term 4.

  • Live streaming or the sharing of highlights of school events such as assemblies, and photo highlights of other school events to enable our families to be part of student activities
  • Our team have implemented COVID – Safe plans for 1:1 Information, Music COE, Instrumental Music, 2021 Captain Speeches and 2021 Prep Transition sessions
  • Every incursion, excursion and camp requiring additional planning and adjustments

With your support and some innovation, we plan to hold around twenty-six signature school events and excellence activities during Term 4. We know that 2020 is the one time every student will spend in their current year level, and we all want this to be the very best year possible for them.

This week, we share NAIDOC Week, Street Science and Year 6 Market Day.

P&C NEWS

Dear Parents and Carers,

This will be our final article for 2020 and we hope that all the families and friends of the CSSS community are doing well.

Tuckshop

As you may be aware, the support for the tuckshop this year has been fantastic, and we appreciate all the assistance given by the school community. It has been quite the journey for all of us in the P&C, in particular the Tuckshop staff; Angela, Vivienne and our awesome volunteer Nat, who gives up so much of her time to help out. Thank you to everyone who has helped have all the orders ready on time whilst giving care and attention to providing quality food and beverages for our students and staff.

Fundraising

We continue to keep in close contact with the school regarding restrictions on school activities (in particular fundraising) that are enforced by Education Queensland.

At the recent monthly P&C meeting there was much discussion about fundraising events and the allocation of funds raised to support our school. We want to reassure everyone that over the past six months or so we have put measures in place to ensure that every cent raised is being accounted for, in accordance with P&C Qld policy. Please contact either Darren (President) or Sue (Vice President) on the contact details below, if you have any questions or concerns.

At the meeting we also had an open discussion about the school air conditioning. We have requested that the school continue to provide frequent updates on the progress of this project. We are also interested in the progress of the covered walkway from the school hall, and we understand that the school is seeking further quotes for this work. We hope to have some updates for you soon.

Please contact us at the email address on the CSSS Website or at: CSSS_PandC@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au if you wish to share ideas for fundraising events or offer your assistance.

Communication

We understand that clear communication is important to alleviate any concerns and curiosity, and hopefully the school website and Facebook page are providing an effective source of information for parents and carers. Please check them out at:

If anyone would like to contact the P&C Executive Committee members, which also includes the school Principal at our shared email, please use: CSSS_PandC@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au.

If you would like to contact the P&C President directly via email you can do this at:

PandCPresident@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au.

Tuckshop staff are available via email at: cstuckshop@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au.

Thank You

Well, what a year it has been! I would like to pass on my thanks to the members of the P&C and Tuckshop for giving up their time and making such valuable contributions to the school and the community this year. In particular, I would like to thank Kirsty Duncan (Treasurer) for taking such care in managing our finances in some challenging times this year. We all appreciate your effort Kirsty.

We wish all our students, parents, carers, and school staff all the best for the holidays, and a safe and prosperous new year!

Sincerely
Darren (President)
On behalf of the CSSS P&C Executive Committee
