Principal’s Report

"Our School, Your Village"

State primary schools across Queensland whose leaders are members of the Queensland Association of State School Principals, are this week displaying on their school noticeboards the message: "Our School, Your Village".

There is wide recognition that schools are an integral part of our communities and that each school reflects the diversity of the community it operates within. In fact, in some places the school is the lynch pin of the community.

Parents are increasingly expressing their concerns as to how their students will contribute effectively to a world that will be vastly different from the one they grew up in. The business and social sectors are requiring new sets of skills, and educators across the world are endeavouring to successfully navigate and shape their students' futures.

The shift in how schools operate and deliver teaching and learning necessitates learning that happens outside the classroom, outside the school, and in the wider community, as well as through the use of digital platforms.

Perhaps we could infer from the African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child" that it takes a community to raise a school. Community members need to work together to nurture their schools. It is well documented that having strong collaborative relationships benefits students, staff and the greater community. The responsibility for raising a well-educated and civic-minded generation of children can be best achieved when schools, parents, and communities partner together. When this happens, great things can happen in the lives of children and young adults.

World Teachers’ Day

2020 has meant that more than any time in the past, we have all had a role as teachers of young people. This World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate as a village, as all teachers.

World Teachers' Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and thank Queensland teachers for the important role they play across our state - inside our classrooms and out in the community.

This year we are celebrating the many diverse faces of teaching across our state. From the cape to the coast, from the reef to the ranges, our amazing Queensland teachers go above and beyond for our students each and every day.

Let’s join together to thank all Queensland Teachers on World Teachers’ Day, Friday 30th October 2020.

Share your celebrations by using #ThankQldTeachers

Celebrated in more than 100 countries world-wide, World Teachers' Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1994 to recognise the role of teachers in society. UNESCO's theme for World Teachers' Day is, ‘Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future’.

World Teachers' Day is held internationally on 5th October. As the day usually falls during Australian school holidays, Queensland is celebrating on Friday 30th October 2020.

We work together to maintain a COVID-Safe bubble for Coomera Springs in Term 4.

As an entire school community, we need to continue to implement the various modifications and restrictions on the way we do things to keep our school community safe, and our school operating. This has enabled a number of school events, excursions and incursions to occur. The guidelines under which we operate remain the same for Term 4. We continue to be vigilant.

  • We have received confirmation that dancing can be included in our Year 6 Graduation
  • Monitor all Queensland Health Advice and Directives
  • Do not enter the school if unwell – students, staff, parents and visitors.
  • Get tested if you have symptoms.
  • Adult social distancing inside and outside the school and restricting access to school areas.
  • Hygiene and frequent sanitisation.
  • We work together on this, including some live streaming of events to keep things happening for students where we can

Learning Excellence in Term 4

Through the amazing support and cooperation of our entire school community, we have been able to ensure continued learning excellence at Coomera Springs during Term 4. We have around 26 special events and excellence programs scheduled for Term 4.

  • Live streaming or the sharing of highlights of school events such as assemblies, and photo highlights of other school events to enable our families to be part of student activities
  • Our team have implemented COVID – Safe plans for 1:1 Information, Music COE, Instrumental Music and 2021 Prep Information sessions
  • Every incursion, excursion and camp requiring additional planning and adjustments

With your support and some innovation, we plan to hold around twenty-six signature school events and excellence activities during Term 4. We know that 2020 is the one time every single student spends in their current year level and we all want this to be the very best year possible for them.

We have recently had our Footsteps to Fame, STEM Punks and Paper Planes/Drone Control. Please see the photo gallery below to share some of these experiences.

Student Leadership

This term our Year Five cohort will be given the opportunity to pursue a position of student leadership in 2021. Students that nominate themselves will be provided a leadership passport as their first stage of the process.

Later, students will be required to present a speech to their class; potentially to the Year 3-5 student body and a formal interview with Mrs Hodder to further communicate and clarify their leadership qualities and reasons for aspiring.

In the week leading up to the distribution of the passports, we encourage parents to discuss their children’s aspirations to leadership positions in 2021 with them and support them on their journey during the process.

Year Six Graduation

Our 2020 Year 6 Graduation is fast approaching – Tuesday 8th December. Please ensure final payments are made to Judy by Friday 6th November. There is limited seating available, so to ensure all family members are part of this special occasion, we will be recording the event and streaming to an online platform. The associated links will be emailed to families and the feed/footage will only be able to be accessed via that link. The footage will also be available for future viewing using the same link, as well as the event having a live feed to the big screen at Movie World on the night.

All professional photography from the night will also be available from the school if your Year Six child brings a USB in to school and downloads the files.

In the near future the Year Six Teaching Team will communicate more details around the night and purchased tickets will be sent home. It is shaping up to be a fantastic night of fun and celebration!

P&C NEWS

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is week 4 of Term 4 already and we hope all the families and friends of the CSSS community are safe and well.

Tuckshop

Turnover in the tuckshop is getting back to pre-COVID figures which shows that we are getting much needed support from our school community, and we thank everyone for this. Of course we would not have been able to continue to provide services over the past five months or so without the support of the Job Keeper payments for our tuckshop staff. As turnover returns to ‘normal’ we can now be self-sufficient, which is great news, and we look forward to providing more services to our school. Thank you to our tuckshop staff who have endured and continue to provide service with a smile.

Fundraising

We are continuing to keep in close contact with the school and monitor restrictions on school activities that are currently being enforced by Education Queensland. The Executive Committee will be meeting soon to discuss possible fundraising events for the remainder of this year and to start planning for next year also.

We will be letting everyone know what will be happening for the remainder of the year and we appreciate your patience while we continue to plan our activities. Please contact us at the email address on the CSSS Website or at: CSSS_PandC@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au if you wish to share ideas for fundraising events or offer your assistance – all help, no matter how big or small is appreciated.

Communication

We realise that clear communication is important to everyone and hope that you have had a look at the ‘new’ version of the school website. It provides a single source of information for parents and carers, so please check it out at:

https://coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au/

If you would like to contact the P&C Executive Committee members which includes the school Principal, please use the shared email: The_PandC.

If you would like to contact the P&C President directly via email you can do this at: PandCPresident@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au

The tuckshop staff are available via email at: cstuckshop@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au.

Monthly P&C Meeting

The next P&C meeting for 2020 will be held in the Resource Centre (next to the library) on Wednesday 11th November at 3:30pm. Please let us know if you would like to come along. All are welcome.

With your help, we look forward to providing ongoing support for our school, students and our community. We hope the remainder of 2020 is safe and enjoyable for you.

Sincerely,
CSSS P&C Executive Committee
