Principal’s Report
Student Free Day
Friday 4th September is a scheduled student free day across Queensland. Teachers and staff will be involved in a program of professional learning on this day and school will be closed for students. Camp Australia may operate and will advise families.
Classroom air-conditioning work
Families are advised that contractors will shortly commence work on installing air conditioning as part of the Cooler Cleaner School Program. This will see every classroom space yet to be air conditioned with air conditioning ready for summer. Air conditioning will also be installed in parts of the Resource Centre. Contractors will be working overnight and outside school hours to minimise the disruption to learning while this work in being completed. This is great news for the school to ensure that every student will learn in an air-conditioned classroom.
This has been a long goal for our school community and we welcome the commencement of this final phase towards students being able to effectively learn in comfort, year round. We acknowledge the long work of our P&C and our entire school community through fund raising over many years towards this goal, which is now being finalised by the Queensland Government.
The second part of this government initiative was to upgrade our clean energy to support the air conditioning with the large upgrade to solar power which had previously been completed.
We work together to maintain a COVID-Safe bubble for Coomera Springs
As an entire school community, we need to continue to implement the various modifications and restrictions on the way we do things to keep our school community safe, and our school operating. We cannot become complacent and somehow believe that this is over. We know that locations have been listed which were visited by individuals who tested positive. These locations are in our community. Whilst we do not have any direct links, we all need to do the right thing at this time.
- Monitor all Queensland Health Advice and Directives.
- Do not enter the school if unwell – students, staff, parents and visitors.
- Get tested with symptoms.
- Adult social distancing inside and outside the school and restricting access to school areas.
- Hygiene and frequent sanitisation.
- We work together on this including some live streaming of events to keep things happening for students where we can.
School Bus Lane
We have one vehicle lane at the front of the school that is dedicated to buses only. This lane needs to be kept as a clearway for the school bus to ensure student safety and the maintenance of the bus schedule. This lane is clearly marked and enforceable by Queensland Police Service or Council Parking Inspectors. Surfside Buslines have forwarded photos of vehicles parked in the bus lane, double parked and otherwise blocking the entry of the school bus. The bus company have been generous in forwarding the photos to the school and may choose to refer them to authorities. Hopefully, this general reminder will ensure that school families are not impacted if enforcement needs to occur. No-one wants to see school families fined. Please be aware.
There are multiple alternate lanes at the front and rear of the school and alternate student collection points away from the bus lane.
Excellence at Coomera Springs
This fortnight we highlight our wonderful Book Week Parade as part of Born to Read. Thank you to our wonderful families for assisting students with their costumes and being part of this great event.

News from the Chaplain
In times like these I am so grateful to be living in Queensland where we can connect and enjoy each other’s company. It is important to appreciate this now and to make the most of our human interaction wherever and whenever we can. There is always something to be grateful for – especially in spring!
Gratitude may be one of the most overlooked tools we have as an internal resource. Cultivating gratitude doesn’t cost us any money, doesn’t take much time and is enormously beneficial. Scientific research shows that there are at least seven benefits to an attitude of gratitude:
- Gratitude opens the door to more relationships
- Gratitude improves physical health
- Gratitude improves psychological health
- Gratitude enhances empathy and reduces aggression
- Gratitude increases the quality of our sleep
- Gratitude improves our self-esteem
- Gratitude improves mental strength

On that note … enjoy the start of a new season and let’s give cultivating gratitude a good effort this spring!

Book Fair
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for your support for our Book Fair this year. I know it was a bit unusual, but the students were amazing with how they handed their buying experience.
We sold $5490 worth of items and were rewarded with $1900 worth of free books for the library, which your children will be able to start borrowing next term. It was a wonderful effort.
Thank you very much!
Happy Reading!

Year 5 & 6 Music COE – Jazz Workshops
Last Friday our Year 5 & 6 Music COE students participated in a Jazz Workshop hosted by Malcolm Wood from the Brisbane Jazz Club. Malcolm worked with the students for several hours on improvisation and creative solo playing, Blues scale and performing techniques, and the students added their own interpretations to a traditional jazz song called “Duke’s Place” (C Jam Blues). Malcolm also shared some interesting snippets of music history, demonstrated amazing flugelhorn playing and showed us how to use various types of mutes to add different tone colours to a jazz solo. The students gained a great deal of knowledge from this workshop experience, and left on a musical high note! Malcolm will be back next Friday for Part 2 of this wonderful music extension experience.

A message from Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service – Dental Clinics
The temporary closure of Mobile Dental Clinics located in schools in our region will continue. The decision to continue the cessation of services has not been made lightly and is part of a wider plan for the management of GCHHS Oral Health Services during this time.
Mobile Dental Clinics will remain on site in schools ready to recommence when we are given the directive to do so.
In the interim, dental services will be provided from Burleigh School Dental Clinic.
Please contact the Client Service Centre on 1300 300 850 for appointments or advice.
