Principal’s Report
Excellence does not take a COVID holiday
Time does not stand still for student excellence at Coomera Springs. We continue to be focused on our core values of respect, integrity and excellence for all students right through the many changes due to COVID-19. We are having to do things differently, there have been changes for everyone and we continue our health vigilance during the pandemic. Our students are our future and we use this time to build excellence to enable Springs’ students to flourish. This is an opportunity to reframe our thinking to ensure that excellence does not take a holiday.
- Student drop off away from classrooms builds student independence and reliability
- The events of 2020 are an opportunity to build the resilience and adaptability necessary for students in future life
- Good hygiene skills and keeping healthy are excellent life skills to keep going
- The period of learning from home created a greater appreciation of families, school and our friends
- Student learning routines change but commitment to learning and achievement is stronger than ever
- Students have learning goals and learn how to reach these goals building excitement through achieving difficult things
2020 is the one time each student spends in this year level and it is time to shine and time to be excellent. We win together by overcoming challenges and dealing with the stuff that has to happen in life. Excellence does not take a COVID holiday at Coomera Springs.
I am pleased that our programs of excellence have returned during Term 2 with the Poetry Competition. Students have really shone through taking on a challenge to perform a poem. This week we celebrate excellence in poetry through our photo gallery below.
In Term 3, we will see a return of our talent competition - Footsteps to Fame. We are very excited to once again showcase the performing arts in our school and are very much looking forward to seeing our students perform. We also expect to run a modified and somewhat smaller athletics carnival in Term 3, but will announce more information about this as we work through the current COVID-19 restrictions still in place. There is a lot to look forward to next term!
Peoples’ Long Weekend
The public holiday normally assigned to the Gold Coast Show has been moved to Friday 14th August 2020 to create a long weekend for families to enjoy some restrictions lifting.
The school and Camp Australia will be closed on Friday 14 August. We will operate as normal on Friday 28 August.
Please note that published calendars may not reflect this change.
New school website and school sign
We have updated the school website over the past weeks. This reflects a cleaner and clearer look and is part of a consistent state-wide website construction that also feeds into our communications app, Q Schools. If you haven’t downloaded the Q Schools app, it is available in your relevant app store. Once downloaded, you can follow our school as well as other schools in the same place.
Our original school sign had reached the end of its workable life and has been upgraded to one with more functionality and enabling messages from both sides. Please keep an eye out for the new sign and important messages as you drive along Old Coach Road in either direction.
School Carparks
We have several Drop and Go areas on two sides of the school which are clearly signposted. Please ensure that drivers remain with the vehicle and keep within the time limits for Drop and Go areas.
Our back car park is a great alternative spot if you are finding the front carpark is too busy. Please make sure that you only park in designated car parks – please do not pull up on the grass verge as this blocks the entrance and can be unsafe for our students attempting to cross the road.
Thanks to our community during Term 2
Term 2 has been a term like no other for our school, students, staff and families. Throughout all of the restrictions, home learning and changes everywhere, Coomera Springs students continue to appear happy and getting on with their learning as with every other year. I send my sincere gratitude to our entire community for making the adjustments necessary and keeping the focus on our students.
School will break for the winter school holidays from 27 June. School resumes for Term 3 on Monday 13 July 2020.

Poetry Recital Competition
Congratulations to all the students who competed in the recent Poetry Recital Competition. We had a fantastic display of talent and entertainment across the week.
It is not easy to stand up and speak in front of judges, and we were so impressed with each student.
We hope each student can entertain their friends and family with their recited poem for years to come. A huge thank you to Event Cinemas and the various staff for taking the time to judge across the week.

News from the Guidance Officer
What a busy term! I hope you all have a well-deserved break over the school holidays. Some of you may have found social distancing, isolation, and learning-at-home challenging and perhaps stressful. It is important to make sure we take a break to relax and recharge. A break may be a planned holiday, or as simple as a day out spending some time in nature. Going outside to a local park, garden or beach, is a good way of taking a ‘brain break’ from everyday life. Spending time in in the natural environment with plenty of sunshine and fresh air can help to lower stress levels and have a positive impact on wellbeing.

Chappy News
And here we are at the end of a challenging term; a term like none other. We should all give ourselves a pat on the back and a big hug. As Australians we are better placed than most other nations to recover well. Perhaps this gives us reason to practice gratitude for the privileges we experience as Australians:
- We live in one of the most beautiful nations in the world
- We have the bluest skies and the whitest beaches
- We went into the pandemic with a fairly strong economy
- We live in a peaceful society
- All our children are free to attend school
- As Australians we can go to a hospital and receive excellent medical care
- We have “mateship”!
- We have a GREAT sense of humour – even in tough times
“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form
of thought, and that gratitude is happiness
doubled by wonder.”
Gilbert K. Chesterton
“Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude for.” - Zig Ziglar

P&C News
Hello to all parents and carers!
Term 2 has been one to remember, that’s for sure. It has brought challenges to everyone involved in the school and the community, and on behalf of the P&C we would like to thank the teachers and school staff for all their efforts in helping our kids keep on track with their learning.
We would also like to thank the community for their patience and assistance, as well as the support shown towards the Tuckshop. With this support we can keep providing this service to our kids, and we appreciate it.
In Term 3 we look forward to more fundraising events but also hearing of any ideas you may have to share. Please forward these to the P&C email address or share via the Mums and Dads chat page on Facebook.
On another fundraising note, you will be happy to hear that CSSS has been earmarked as one of the early recipients of the government funded Air Conditioning for Schools Program. The P&C has provided a lot of support to the school in the past and this decision allows us to support the school in lots of other areas. This is a great result for our school and the learning environment for our students.
If you would like to continue to support our teachers by ‘shouting’ them a coffee or hot chocolate from the Tuckshop, I have heard first hand that they really appreciate the kind gesture.
Have a safe and enjoyable break and we look forward to seeing you and our wonderful kids in Term 3.
Sincerely,
CSSS P&C Committee
