Principal’s Report
Finding strengths during the time of COVID
2020 has been a year of challenges for everyone and we particularly acknowledge that some families have been severely impacted through bushfire and then COVID–19. At this time there remain strong impacts upon our community, as our country responds to COVID.
For the first time in history, our schools moved to a model of remote learning, with students learning at home for an extended period. This was new for us all and difficult to make perfect from the start. Now that we have our students back at school, it is time to reflect on this unique period of time for schools. We have been through a lot of change during this period and we want to acknowledge the positive outcomes from this time. We know that many students have a deeper appreciation of their family, their home base and their school.
These are some of the benefits that came from the period of remote learning that our teachers and students have spoken about.
Protect our team
We send a massive thank you to our school community for adapting to the new procedures required for the school to resume school-based learning. We know that these procedures require changes in routines and some additional time. We are so grateful to have the very best school community of families anywhere. This has made every transition smooth and keeps us all safe and healthy. We have been told to expect these procedures to continue beyond the end of this term.
We work together to protect our team of beautiful students and staff in a healthy bubble.
- Student drop off and pick up away from classroom areas
- Adult social distancing inside the school and at car park and student pick up areas
- Students stay home if unwell with any symptoms
- Maintain frequent hand washing and hygiene protocols
No dogs on school grounds
I remind everyone that dogs are not permitted on the school grounds. This includes after hours and over the weekend. We have recently been seeing evidence of dogs coming onto the oval on the weekend. Please spread the word that the school grounds are not an off-leash area. Our students play here.
Roadmap back to excellence activities for students
I want to update families with regards to school excellence programs. As with every part of our community, schools have had to cancel many events on the school calendar since March due to COVID-19. These events include camps, assemblies and interschool sport. We are working on a small number of school excellence activities being able to happen in a different way during Term 3. We are all hoping that restrictions will lift further in Term 4 to enable even more excellence activities to take place towards the end of the year. We all look forward to being able to resume all of our excellence programs when this is over.
This week, we celebrate our students of the term.

Chappy News
The weeks have flown by so quickly – only a few weeks left of term! There have been many challenges lately and during times of change it’s important to use our “growth mindsets” and think about the following:
- Even when it looks difficult … I’ll give it a go
- This is an opportunity to learn something new
- I like to try new things
- It’s okay to make mistakes … I can always learn from them
- I can’t do it … YET
- I’m not good at it …YET
- With my strong mind I’ll keep on going … I don’t give up
- I’ll give it a go
- I’ll keep trying until I can do it
- I love a challenge
The beautiful thing about learning is that nobody can take from you what you have learnt.

Footsteps to Fame 2020
It’s almost time for our biennial school talent competition, Footsteps to Fame!
Students may sign up for an individual or group performance in one of the following three categories:
- Singing
- Dancing
- Mix it Up (instruments, comedy, juggling, hula hooping, poetry and more)
There are prizes to be won in each category for Junior Division (Prep – Year 3) and for Senior Division (Year 4-6). All students who enter Footsteps to Fame will receive a Certificate of Participation.
PLEASE NOTE: In order to make our Talent Show COVID safe we have made a new rule for group performances. Group Entries must consist of students from one class, or students from one family. An email will be sent to all families explaining the rules and how to enter. Entries must be received by 3pm Friday 24th July (end of Week 2 next term).
If your child has a special skill or talent, please encourage them to get involved - we can’t wait to see our students on show!
P&C News
It's great to see the kids back at school and I'm sure our wonderful teachers can say the same. On behalf of the CSSS community I would like to thank all the teachers and staff for their support over the past few months. We really appreciate the care you have shown our children.
Coffee and cookie
You are very welcome to ring the Tuckshop to order the teacher of your choice a hot or cold beverage with or without a cookie/cake. We just need their name, class, order and payment and we will happily get it to the teacher.
Fundraising
The P&C is very keen to organise more fundraising events however, we are still required to abide by some restrictions, as you can understand. Our next major event being planned is for Father's Day, and given the success of the Mother’s Day 'lucky dip' stall, we will probably adopt a similar theme. We will keep you posted on all activities as the event draws closer.
Tuckshop news
The ladies in the tuckshop are as excited as any of us about our kids coming back to school. It's great to see the menu is back to normal and includes some tasty and healthy (can be both) choices for our kids to enjoy. Access Flexischools to pre-order meals and snacks for 1st and 2nd breaks. We appreciate your ongoing support.
Uniforms
As we come into the cooler months, please be aware that there are still some school jumpers available for purchase at reduced prices. Most are larger sizes (size 10 and above). Please contact the tuckshop if you are interested in purchasing these items.
