Principal’s Report
Support for Students as we deal with COVID - 19
We want our young people to be resilient, confident and optimistic. We are all abundantly aware of the relentless news we are receiving that may cause concern for us all. We have in our community, families who are being significantly impacted by the sensible measures to mitigate this threat, and we are all concerned for the impact of this on our young people. How we, as adults, respond to this threat will shape our children in their concerns and anxiety. We are a community with the common focus on our students and I urge everyone to be as positive as possible for our children. This will help them be confident and resilient and continue to be children at this time. Very skilled scientists are working on a vaccine, and our government is making decisions to protect our community. Our way of life will change in different ways for a period of time but we will get through this together. This is a challenge for us all and we will come out the other side. We all have a role to play in supporting our students at this time in the best way we can.
At the time of writing this newsletter, we have had a number of cancellations and changes at our school due to government responses to the Coronavirus. As this may change in the future, we have developed a central place on our school website, detailing all changes and cancellations.

National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence
Students are able to wear something orange on Friday 20 March, 2020 as we stand together as a community against bullying and violence in all forms. Classes will be completing learning activities on Friday during the time we would normally have assembly.
P&C Annual General Meeting
The P&C held their Annual General Meeting on 11th March 2020. We take this opportunity to thank the outgoing executive for their voluntary work during 2019. The P&C held a number of successful events during the year and raised money which contributed to air conditioning classrooms at the school. We thank Theresa Grima, as outgoing President, for her strong contribution to the P&C during 2019. We welcome Darren Akers as incoming President.

From the Chaplain
Our Chaplaincy Morning Tea Program has been well supported this year by a number of organisations that value community. They have contributed financially and with generous donations of food. Please support them as they support our school community: Lions Club - Upper Coomera, Coles - Coomera City, Hillsong Church - Coomera
As members of our community experience difficulty and hardship at times, Hillsong Coomera makes food hampers available on Mondays and Thursdays. These hampers are available for pension and disability card holders at a cost of $15.50 each and include staples, fruit & vegetables and other food items. Their food pantry is also open to everyone on Mondays and Thursdays to purchase food items at a discounted price.
Let's look out for, and support one another during times of uncertainty. Anne Frank once said that she doesn't think of the difficulty or even misery, but of the beauty that still remains.

REGIONAL MUSIC AND EVENTS – COVID-19 UPDATE
We have received the following advice from the South East Region Music Coordinator in regards to planned Music Events for Semester 1 this year. We have highlighted in bold the events we have been planning towards at CSSS, Regional Music Camp for our selected Senior Choir students and Fanfare for our Band and Strings Students.
“Responding to most recent advice regarding COVID-19, we wish to advise that the following enrichment programs in our region will no longer go ahead as planned for this semester:
- Beginners Music Week (was week 8 term 2 at Chandler)
- Regional Music Camp (was week 10 term 2 at Tallebudgera)
- Further advice will be published regarding:
- if these events are to run in an alternate format,
- if they may be postponed to later in the year,
- or whether for this year they are to be cancelled.
Fanfare is a State event, so we will hear advice from Central Office later this week and will update you on the same.”
In addition to this advice from Regional Office, our school has been advised by both Beenleigh Eisteddfod and Gold Coast Eisteddfod that their school group events may need to be rescheduled or cancelled. We are still awaiting confirmation of what exactly will happen with these events.
