Principal’s Report
Student Reading Goals
Helping students to set and work on goals enables them to be clear on their next learning step. This is particularly important for complex learning processes such as learning to read. Learning to read takes years and many incremental steps. At Coomera Springs, we work to break down the steps to give students their next learning goal to focus on. We continue to look for ways that students can read at higher levels. In addition to everything that we do, we have a school-wide focus for 2020. The following is particularly important for students in Year 1 – 6 who are already making good progress with reading and seeking to read at higher levels.
Students:
- Enjoy reading a wide range of texts and for different purposes
- Work on their reading goals
- Can discuss their reading goals with confidence and precision
Parents/Carers:
- Share reading of a wide range of texts and for different purposes with their student
- Become aware and support student reading goals
- Positively discuss reading goals with your student
Before School Expectations
As the new school year is getting underway, we clarify before school expectations for students.
Students are expected to be at school ready to start learning at 8:45am each day. For many families, there is a need for supervision for students before school. Before school care is available through Camp Australia for this purpose. Students who arrive before 8:35am are expected to wait at the Tuckshop Area unless waiting with a parent or attending Camp Australia. Students should not be playing on school equipment before school.
Thank you for your support of our before school expectations for students. This ensures the effective safety and supervision for students.

Instrumental Music News
Strings and Band Students are settling into their new lesson groups very well and mostly remembering to arrive at the correct time for their weekly lesson. Now is the time to make sure your child has everything that is needed for Strings and Band. All students have been asked to bring a DISPLAY FOLDER and a PENCIL to their lesson and ensemble rehearsal each week. Please also check that your child is bringing their instrument home from school after their lesson each week, and attempting all the set Instrumental Home Practice tasks.
Music Shirts
Our performing ensembles look amazing in their Music shirts. If your child is in Band, Strings or Choir, now is the time to order your Music Shirt for 2020. They are available from the Uniform Shop which is opened on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:00am – 10:30am or ordering online via School Locker’s website.
Music shirts can be worn to school as a uniform option on Thursdays this year.
