Principal’s Report

Student Leaders Presentation

Our recent badge presentation to student leaders was a wonderful acknowledgement of how great our students are. Every student inspires other students as we work together as a school community to reach for the stars. Our captains and class representatives have been willing and focused to aspire to be recognised as leaders. We celebrate all our student leaders this week and also the many wonderful students who aspired and unfortunately missed out.

Day 13

We recently conducted our Day 13 (normally Day 8) student count. Our Day 13 enrolments are 911. This enrolment count determines many aspects of our school staffing package. The 911 enrolments are as predicted which means that we will continue 37 classes. We need to make no major changes and our classes are now settled for the year.

Programs of Excellence

Four weeks into the 2020 school year and our various programs of excellence are getting underway.

  • Student Leaders presentation
  • Student Leaders – Tree Tops Challenge
  • Student Leaders Summit
  • 2020 Kokoda Kids
  • 2020 Instrumental Music
  • Visual Arts – specialist lessons
  • District Swimming
  • Year 2 Swimming

Parents’ and Citizens’ Association

The Annual General Meeting of the Coomera Springs State School Parents’ and Citizens’ Association is scheduled for 11th March. At this meeting the executive positions of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer will be voted on.

We thank our current President, Theresa Grima for her voluntary work for the P&C as she announces that she will not be available for the position in 2020. The President position will be vacant at the meeting and we will be calling for nominations from interested people.

Back to School Road Safety

With the start of the school year, it is an important time for families to reinforce road safety with your child coming to school. Are they wearing helmets on bikes and scooters? Are they taking a safe route to school using bike paths, footpaths or space away from vehicle traffic where possible? Is your child waiting in a safe way at the bus stop back away from traffic? Do you have a Prep student who needs adult help to get safely to school?

Please note that the Queensland Police Service has a current focus on road safety, school zones, parking correctly, safe drop off and collection of students. We need to ensure that the safety of students comes first.

Finance News

Payment Options Available

IN PERSON:

Opening hours for payments at the Finance window, School Administration is Monday and Friday only from 8.00am to 11.00 am. Unfortunately, payments will not be accepted outside of these hours.

We no longer accept credit/debit card phone payments.

The school encourages payments by BPOINT.

BPOINT via WEB ADDRESS:

Please refer to the left hand bottom corner of your invoice that you will receive via email. Click on the ‘Direct Web Address Hyperlink’ which will Pre-Populate automatically your payment references such as CRN, invoice details and the student’s name. All you need to do is enter the amount you wish to pay. For example; if wishing to pay the 1st instalment Student Resource fee you would enter $45.00 ignoring the full amount of $130.00 that appears on your invoice. However, you will need to do “individual” transactions for each invoice you receive due to the unique references pertaining to same.

BPOINT PHONE PAYMENT – PHONE 1300 631 073:

You can pay either with credit or debit card. Important - before phoning please ensure that you have readily available your payment reference details such as CRN, invoice number/s from the BPOINT box on the left hand bottom corner of your emailed invoice. Again, you elect the amount you wish to pay. You will be prompted when to enter your references and once your payment has been accepted a receipt number will be issued. Again, you will need to do “individual” transactions for each invoice you receive due to the unique references pertaining to same.

EFT payment directly to our School Bank Account:

SCHOOL BANK ACCOUNT: Coomera Springs State School
BSB: 064-474
ACCOUNT NUMBER: 10256819

Please ensure correct identification by including at least student’s surname, class, etc. Example SMITH, 1A Fees.

Parent feedback is, “I can’t believe how easy it is to make a BPOINT payment”. Other bonuses are no waiting in a queue and being able to pay at a time convenient to you.

Visit by Registered Nurse for Free Prep Vision Screening

Good vision is important for a child’s educational, physical and social development. Vision screening checks for common eye conditions that may impact your child’s ability to see and therefore impact their learning and development.

A Registered Nurse will be visiting Coomera Springs State School on the 9th March, 2020 and 20th March 2020 to conduct vision screening for children in their prep year. Consent forms will be sent home to all students in Prep within the next couple of weeks. If you wish to have your prep child participate in this free vision screening program, please complete and sign the consent form and return to your child’s class teacher by the 20th March 2020. Parents do not need to be present for screening, however if you would like to be, please contact the school to arrange this.

If your child’s vision is screened, you will be advised of the results in writing. If a vision concern is found, you will receive a phone call from the nurse to discuss referral to an eye health professional for further assessment. If a vision concern is identified and your child requires glasses, eligible health care card holders may be assisted with free basic glasses through the Spectacle Supply Scheme.

Participation in vision screening is not compulsory. If you do not wish for your child to participate in screening, please complete the consent form and indicate that you wish to decline screening.

If you have any questions, please contact the Primary School Nurse Health Readiness Program on 1800 687 372.

PE Department News

Drinking water is the best way to quench your thirst. Even better, it doesn’t come with all the sugar and energy (kilojoules) found in fruit juice drinks, soft drinks, sports drinks and flavoured mineral waters. Drinking water instead of sweetened drinks also prevents dental problems. Students are encouraged to bring a named water bottle to school everyday to ensure they stay hydrated.

Students must wear hats for all HPE lessons and outdoor play.

Save the Date: School Cross Country Carnival

Our annual Cross Country Carnival will be held on Tuesday 24th March.

Students can come to school dressed in their house colours

Ballun (Blue) Kaban (Green) Tharagum (Yellow) and Tugai (Red)

If you are unsure which house your child is in, please contact your classroom teacher. Families and friends are invited to come along and cheer! Don’t forget to bring your chairs.

Save the Date: Tuesday 17th March – Year 4, 5, 6 Gala Sports Day

This term all students in years 4, 5 and 6 will compete against Highland Reserve State School and Park Lake State School in our Interschool Sports Program. Year 5 and 6 students have chosen to compete in either Oztag or Soccer. Year 4 will be soccer only. These sports will be held over three venues. More detailed information will be emailed to families in the coming days.

Students will need to wear: their school sports uniform, hat and sunscreen.

They will need to bring: two water bottles, packed lunch and morning tea – NO TUCKSHOP facilities are available.

Music Department News

Instrumental Music News

We are pleased to welcome our new Band Teacher, Mrs Renee Levy to the Music Department of CSSS. Renee met with most of the Band students last week, and we are looking forward to having her at our school on Thursdays in 2020. All Band students should now have their timetables for lessons and Junior/Senior Band rehearsals, which commenced this week.

As our Band and Strings Programs are now both up and running, all students should have had their first Iesson for the year (some have had more than one), and received all the necessary paperwork for enrolment and instrument hire if applicable. Please ensure this paperwork is returned ASAP and all levies paid. Parents, please also check your child’s lesson and Band/String Ensemble rehearsal days and times (especially the Before/After School commitments) and remind students to bring the necessary equipment each week. We are off to a great start for 2020!

Music Shirts

Our performing ensembles look amazing in their Music shirts. If your child is in Band, Strings or Choir, now is the time to order your Music Shirt for 2020. They are available from the Uniform Shop which is opened on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings from 8:00am – 10:30am or ordering online via School Locker’s website. Music shirts can be worn to school as a uniform option on Thursdays this year.

P&C News

First Fundraiser for 2020

On Monday we started our first fundraiser for 2020 “Loose change/coin Challenge”. All classes are participating in this fun and friendly competition which will run over the next week.

It is a very simple challenge where students are asked to bring in any loose change and deposit in their classroom bucket. At the end of the fundraiser all money will be tallied up and the class with the most money raised will celebrate with a “SURPRISE” from the tuckshop.

Money raised will be going towards our continued project of air conditioning the school.

So, are you up for the challenge? Start looking in the car, down the sides of the couch and in the bottom of your bags!

Ready….Set….Go!!!!

P&C Annual General Meeting

The AGM will be held on Wednesday 11th March at 3.30pm in the staffroom, located near the library. We will be voting in a new Executive team consisting of a President, Treasurer and Secretary. If you are considering being a part of the P&C Executive team - please come along.
