Principal’s Report

Year 5 High School Expo

We hosted our inaugural Year 5 High School Expo last Thursday.

The day was very much about allowing students and families the opportunities to consider the choices in secondary school offered and to identify the requirements for enrolment.

Our Year 5 students and their families will then have 14 months to establish and work towards a goal of entry at their preferred local state secondary school. These students also received very special lessons to develop their leadership and learning ability as they mature as learners.

2020 Prep Expo

It was wonderful to welcome all of our 2020 Prep families last Friday to our Prep Expo.

It was a great opportunity to connect with existing and new families and their children who are about to start Prep in January. It is a big deal to welcome new Prep students to our school.

We have high demand for Prep spaces in 2020 and to accommodate this demand, we have made the decision to open an additional class, which will open up the opportunity for a small number of additional enrolments.

Final Enrolment Phase for Prep in 2020 opens 8am Monday 2nd December

We are very excited that we are now in a position to offer limited final enrolment places for Prep at Coomera Springs State School in 2020.

The final enrolment phase will open up to enrolment applications received in person from 8am on Monday 2nd December 2019 at the school’s Administration.

  • Catchment requirements will be waived until enrolment capacity is exhausted;
  • Enrolments will be accepted in chronological order of receipt;
  • Children must be Prep eligible;
  • Please contact the office for the documentation required;
  • After this final enrolment phase, only in catchment enrolments will be accepted.

Designated C&K Kindy Car Parking

Our school shares car parking and access with Coomera Springs C&K Kindy and the Benevolent Society Early Years’ Centre.

These are located at the northern section of the school campus. The C&K has several dedicated car parks for kindy parents to drop off and pick up kindy children each day.

School parents and staff are asked to avoid parking in these car parks as they are designated for C&K.

Congratulations to all our Year 5 students who were courageous enough to challenge themselves and be a part of our 2019 Student Leadership process. This year’s pool of candidates were outstanding, our school is in fine hands for 2020.

Now that all our speeches and voting has concluded, we wait with anticipation for our school Performing Arts and Sports Captains to be announced. The announcement will be made during the Year 4-6 award ceremony and again during final roll call.

2019 Awards Ceremony

This year’s award ceremonies will be held on the 3rd of December.

Both ceremonies will be held in the school hall with the Prep to Year Three ceremony beginning at 9:15am and the Year 4 to Year 6 ceremony at 11:30am.

All award recipient families will have received an email informing them if their child is an award recipient.

Year 6 Graduation

Our 2019 Year 6 Graduation is fast approaching!

This year will see some changes to the format of the event with the main ones being the awarding of the graduation certificate and the Year 6 Academic Awards. The Year 6 class certificates, citizenship and politician awards will remain in the Year 4-6 award ceremony.

We will be recording the event and streaming to an online platform to enable other family members to also be a part of this achievement. The associated links will be emailed to families and the feed/footage will only be able to be accessed via that link. The footage will also be available for future viewing using the same link, as well as the event having a live feed to the big screen at Movie World on the night.

All professional photography from the night will also be available from the school if your Year 6 child brings a USB in and downloads the files.

In the near future the Year 6 Team will communicate more details around the night and purchased tickets will be sent home. It is shaping up to be a fantastic night of fun and celebration.

Final Roll Call

This year’s Final Roll Call will be held on Thursday 12th December, beginning at 1:45pm. It will be a wonderful event which culminates our Year 6’s Primary School experience before embarking onto their respective high school.

This year there are some changes, taking the event closer to the structure when we first started at Coomera Springs. Rather than a formal ceremony, Final Roll Call will be a celebration that spans the length of the school, beginning in the Prep buildings and culminating in the Senior Courtyard with a Year 6 performance, handover of student leadership and cake.

Countdown Calendars

This year our students who access the Special Education Program (SEP) will again receive an A3 size countdown calendar. The calendar will start on the last day of school in 2019 and finish on the first day of school in 2020.

Students can use their calendar to cross off each day in the Christmas holidays and prepare for starting a new school year. Your child’s name as well as a photo of their new class teacher (where possible) will be printed on the calendar.

If you wish for your child not to receive this calendar, please send an email through to cmcle38@eq.edu.au.

SEP transitions

Your child’s current case manager has begun the process of writing student profiles that will be handed to their 2020 class teachers before the end of the year. These profiles will outline student characteristics, strengths and the required adjustments to support their individual learning needs.

During the last week of school we will introduce your child to their 2020 class teacher and show them where their classroom will be. For those students that will have a new teacher to our school, we will organise a time during the Pupil Free Days where they will have the opportunity to meet their new teacher if it is not possible to meet them beforehand.

You will receive an email at the beginning of week 10 outlining who your child’s case manager and class teacher will be. Please contact your child’s case manager or myself if you have any concerns or questions regarding the transition process.

Instrumental Music Update

We would like to thank all Parents and Students of our Instrumental Music Program for a fantastic year of music making!

We have had a very successful year with Eisteddfod and concert performances, and are looking forward to seeing all Instrumental Music groups perform at the Christmas concert next Thursday.

Our Instrumental Music group lessons have now finished for the year, however Band and Strings rehearsals will continue next week in preparation for the Christmas Concert.

If your child is currently using a school instrument, please note that these must be returned to the Music Department at the conclusion of the Christmas Concert on Thursday 5th December. Please ensure all personal items have been taken out of the case before handing in your instrument.

Beginners 2020

Our Beginner Strings and Band Programs are going to be amazing next year!

Miss Williams (Strings) and Dr Postema (Band) have been busily reviewing all applications from our talented Year 2 and 3 students. Early next week, letters of acceptance, enrolment contracts and loan agreement forms will be sent home for the successful applicants.

If your child has been selected for Instrumental Music in 2020 please ensure the required paperwork is returned to school as soon as possible after you receive it, to allow us to set up the group timetables for next year. Keep an eye out also for an email from the Finance Office with the invoice for the 2020 Instrumental Music levy – payment will need to be made before students can take home a hired instrument in 2020.

P&C News

It has been a very busy week and we have now had our final 2 events for the year.

On Wednesday we held our Christmas Stall. The students loved choosing gifts for their families.

Yesterday was our last disco for 2019 which was a lot of fun for all those who attended.

I am still in the process of working out what we have raised from both these events and will send an email as soon as I have the exact figures.

The P & C would like to thank our volunteers, as without your help we would not be able to have these events and raise money for air conditioning for our children.

P & C Meeting

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday 12th February in the Staff room (next to the library) at 3.30pm.

Meetings are held every 2nd Wednesday of the month.

We hope to see you all there.
