Principal’s Report
Christmas Markets
This Friday evening, we have our school community Christmas Markets.
This is a wonderful opportunity to come along and support our students, local families and our extended community as well as to pick up some special items in the lead up for Christmas.
This is a major fundraiser for the P&C towards their goal of completing air conditioning in classrooms.
Do you have a little person ready for Prep in 2020?
We are in the midst of Interviews for Prep in 2020. There may be some families who have not finalised enrolments for 2020 and may wish to consider Coomera Springs.
The Department of Education has given our school a catchment ceiling for enrolments and we are required to provide for all families who live within catchment. It is possible that we have limited space in our Prep or other classes in 2020.
Contact the office for Out-of-Catchment enrolment applications. Once we have placed every In-Catchment enrolment we will look at the Out-of-Catchment where we have capacity.
2020 Booklists
Please see link below for ordering your 2020 book packs online through our preferred supplier, Kookaburra Educational Resources.
You may elect to purchase the required items from elsewhere if you wish. Hard copy lists will be available from the office next week.
If you choose to purchase elsewhere, please make sure you have the correct items as different year levels have different requirements for writing lines, pencil sizes, hand writing books etc.
PLEASE NOTE:

Are You Leaving Coomera Springs in 2019
1:1 Student iPad Program
As communicated in each of the three 1:1 Student iPad Information Sessions, our program is going from strength to strength and ready for another cohorts of Preps becoming eligible for 1:1 in Year 1 in 2020.
Where possible our classes will be composed of 1:1 Student iPad Program participants in each cohort. In order to maximise opportunity for our families, we will not limit the number of places in each year level. This however may lead to a class per year level being composed of students with and without their own BYOD.
As with last year, parents have the ability to purchase a device that meets the strict requirements and specifications of our program from either the Comp Now portal or a vendor of their choice. With that being said, all specifications and components of the student bundle must be provided to be deemed eligible to participate in the 1:1 option at Coomera Springs.
Contrary to previous years, the life of our program is now from Year 1 through to Year 6. There is now no need to purchase another device in the transition from Year 3 to Year 4.
The Comp Now Parent Purchasing Portal is now open and ready for your orders! Orders placed before November 2nd are guaranteed to be delivered to school for parent pick up by the end of Term 4. Orders placed after November 2nd will be available for pick up in the first week of Term 1 2020.
STEM-X
STEM-X (Excellence) @ CSSS
Congratulations to the 28 students in each year level from 3 - 6 who have been offered their positon in the 2020 STEM-X program. We are very excited for the future of the program and the untapped possibilities that lay before us.
As outlined in our information sessions, our school’s STEM strategy is targeted to build capacity with our staff and students. This capacity is built in the manner in which STEM is lead, our understanding of the curriculum, implementation of school wide STEM units and methods to increase student engagement with STEM.
STEM-X @ Coomera Springs is a vehicle to challenge our students, stretching them within the Australian Curriculum and will also increase parent engagement.
Our Focus
In 2020, Coomera Springs will have STEM-X roll classes in Year 5 and 6, while Years 3 and 4, identified students would attend one STEM-X session per week with our STEM Champion outside of their roll class.
STEM-X Student Eligibility Criteria
In 2020, Coomera Springs will use a three tiered criteria to identify 28 students in each year level from Year 3 to 4 who will be offered a position to participate in STEM-X.
We will begin with Tier One and move through the Tiers if necessary in order to identify students that best fit the STEM-X eligibility criteria.
School Camps in 2020
This year we had a very successful school camp schedule in 2019!
Earlier this year we consulted with the P & C regarding the growth of the camp program at Coomera Springs. Next year, 2020 will see the following;
- Year 3 Sleep Over
- Year 4 - 1 night camp to Numinbah
- Year 5 - 2 night camp to Currumbin Valley
- Year 6 - 4 night camp to The Beach School.
As can be seen, the program shows a distinct progression over the year to better prepare our students.
Please find the approximate cost of each camp to enable families to plan for the future and not have any surprises.
Year 4 Camp - $100
Year 5 Camp - $200
Year 6 Camp - $400

P&C News
After lots of organising and preparation, our CSSS Xmas Twilight Market is on this afternoon, 4pm till 8pm.
We have over 40 local businesses along with food vans ranging from coffee and hot donuts to hot food and desserts.
Our year 6 students have been studying “Business” so they will be having 18 stalls to help them understand what business is all about.
We also have our choir performing throughout the afternoon.
All our classes have been busy designing and completing a canvas artwork which will be auctioned off through a silent auction.
Please come along this afternoon and support all our stall holders and year 6 stalls. Come and have a bite to eat whilst listening to our fabulous school choir.
We are also holding a cent auction - each stall has donated a prize. A sheet of tickets will cost $5.00 and there are approximately 40 prizes in total to be won.
