Principal’s Report
Superstan was Super Special - Bravo to our Superstan Team
After months of hard work, preparation and rehearsals during lunch breaks, weekends, after school and during the holidays, The Amazing Adventures of Superstan hit the stage at UCSC Performing Arts Centre recently.
We honour the students, staff, P&C and families who made this happen. These students will remember this experience for the rest of their lives.
Semester 2 Explicit Improvement Agenda
All schools work on the continuous improvement of processes at the school. I am sharing our Explicit Improvement Agenda for Semester 2, 2019 and report on progress of this to the P&C each meeting.
September School Vacation
School will break this Friday and the September School Vacation will commence on Monday 23rd September 2019.
School resumes for Term 4 on Tuesday 8th October with Monday 7th October being the Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday.
Camp Australia will operate a vacation program over ten days during the break. We wish families all the best for special family time during this break and look forward to seeing all students back at school on Tuesday, 8th October.

2020 Parent Requests for Friendship Groups
Even though we are still in Term 3, this is the time that we begin our planning phase for 2020. One of the areas that takes both a long time, and a lot of consideration is class placements for students.
If you have any particular requests for 2020 in terms of friendship groupings, please send this through to the following email address: classplacements@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au
Please make sure that you include:
- Your child’s full name
- The grade that they will be entering into for 2020
- Your friendship request
Please note that these requests are not for teacher placements, and if you have lodged a previous request for friendship groupings in past years, you still need to submit one this year. Also, this is just a request and no guarantees are given that these requests can be met.
All requests should be submitted no later than Friday, 18th October 2019.
Are You Leaving Coomera Springs in 2019?
If you are leaving our school for the 2020 school year, can you please inform the office. This does not include our graduating Year 6 students.
This information helps us immensely in the planning of classes for 2020
STEM-X
STEM-X @ CSSS in 2020
2020 will see the expansion of our STEM-X program at Coomera Springs.
Building upon the success of our weekly 2019 STEM-X lessons for our selected Year 4, 5 and 6 students, we will see some exciting opportunities in 2020. Starting next year, we will see the inception of one Year 5 and one Year 6 STEM-X roll class.
In addition to this, our STEM Champion will offer development opportunities to our staff as well as weekly STEM-X lessons for selected Year 4 and Year 3 students.
Please join us for our second and last STEM-X information session on Thursday 10th October at 3:30pm in the library. This session is the place to find out more about what STEM-X looks like at Coomera Springs in 2020.
1:1 Student iPad Program Information Session
Are you interested in your child being part of the Coomera Spring State School 1:1 Student iPad program?
If you are and you were not able to make the Parent Information Session on the 12th of September, join us early in Term 4 at one of our other sessions. During the session, parents will learn about how our program will look in 2020, the specifications of devices accepted into the program and the associated processes related to the program.
Before you do anything toward 1:1 in any year level at CSSS, come to the next session at the beginning of next term to find out more. All your questions will be answered during the Term 4 information session on the 16th October in the Library at 3:30pm
For those who have already attended an information session, please email the completed Expression of Interest forms to 1to1_EOI@coomeraspringsss.eq.edu.au
EOI forms can be located on the School Website
Student Leadership
In week 4 next term, students in our Year 5 cohort will be given the opportunity to pursue a position of leadership in 2020.
Year 5 students that nominate themselves will be provided a leadership passport as their first stage of the process. Later, students will be required to present a speech to their class, potentially the 3-5 student body and a formal interview with Mr Morris to further communicate and clarify their leadership qualities and reason for aspiring.
In the weeks leading up to the distribution of the passports, we encourage parents to discuss their children’s aspirations to leadership positions in 2020 and support them on their journey during the process.
Device Use on School Grounds
As we will soon be entering Term 4, it is timely to remind our school community that students only use digital devices during class times, while at home or off school grounds. Students are welcome to request administration staff to contact parents/carers if necessary.
As recorded in our school’s responsible behaviour plan, students are not to use devices to call, message or facetime parents. As part of our weekly behaviour lessons, class teachers will remind students of these behaviours and the expectations clarified.
Now Taking Prep Enrolments for 2020
If you have a little one born between 1 July 2014 and 30 June 2015, they are due to start Prep in 2020. Please enrol now to ensure you are included in all the communication about transition activities and events - the sooner the better!
Please share this information if you know anyone with a child due to start next year!

Term 3 in Review
What a busy and successful term we have had in our Music Department! Six Eisteddfod excursions (including three FIRST PLACINGS - AMAZING), a whole school Arts Incursion (Kitch Culture), Music COE Song writing Workshops, Parent Information Sessions for COE 2020 and Instrumental Music 2020, and of course our school Musical – The Amazing Adventures of Superstan!
We would like to acknowledge the hard work of all our Music Parents and the Teachers of CSSS for their support in making all of these wonderful opportunities happen for our students, and to thank our Music Students for continuing to strive for improvement and making the most of the learning opportunities that come your way. Well done everyone!
Year 4 Music COE QSO Excursion – Peter and the Wolf
On Thursday 17th October our Year 4 Music COE students will be heading to Brisbane for a performance of Prokofiev’s classic “Peter and the Wolf” presented by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. This will be a fantastic opportunity for our Year 4 students to experience a concert with professional musicians in the QSO Studios at South Bank.
If your child is in the Year 4 COE class and has yet to return their permission note, please make arrangements to do so ASAP (at the start of Term 4).
Music: Count Us In!
Our Senior Choir students in Year 4 – 6 are busily preparing for an Excursion to Surfers Paradise on Thursday 7th November for the annual Music: Count Us In celebration of music in our schools. This year the nationwide live broadcast will be hosted by the Gold Coast, which is going to be amazing for our students!
Our Year 4 & 5 students will be performing at the Surfers Paradise Foreshore and our Year 6 students will be at the top of the Q1.
Permission notes for this excursion are now due – if your child has yet to return their permission note, please make arrangements to do so ASAP (at the start of Term 4).

Air-conditioning Update
The school musical canteen raised $691.89, we have now raised $24,309.22 for our air-conditioning (not including proceeds from our disco last night).
After doing some quick calculations from our school disco last night, we are very close to our target of $27,500.00 for our air-conditioning of the year 6 and some year 5 classrooms, therefore we have organised for the installation of the air-conditioners over these holidays.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past 3 terms, every bit of help is very much appreciated.
CSSS Twilight Market
CSSS Twilight Market - Friday 15th November, 4:00pm to 8:00pm.

We hope you have a great holiday, stay safe and I look forward to seeing you all next term.
