Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
Our gazetted show holiday is Friday 30th August 2019 for the Gold Coast Show. Please be aware that Coomera Springs State School and Camp Australia (CSSS) will be closed for the Gold Coast Show Holiday.
School Opinion Survey
Our school seeks your feedback through the School Opinion Survey. Families have received a slip of paper providing details on how you can complete the School Opinion Survey. Please access this to provide your opinions of your experience with Coomera Springs State School. We encourage all families to complete this.
NAIDOC Commemoration – Week 5
Across Australia, we commemorate NAIDOC during July each year. As this coincides with the school vacation, we are commemorating NAIDOC at our school in Week 5.
NAIDOC has a long tradition to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories.
This is done significantly through provision of educational and cultural programs both in our communities and within our schools.
The Australian Curriculum: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures cross-curriculum priority, is working towards addressing two distinct needs in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education:
- That Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are able to see themselves, their identities and their cultures reflected in the curriculum of each of the learning areas, can fully participate in the curriculum and can build their self-esteem; and
- That the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures cross-curriculum priority, is designed for all students to engage in reconciliation, respect and recognition of the world’s oldest continuous living cultures.
Students will be involved in NAIDOC learning experiences during class as part of our NAIDOC commemoration for 2020.
Students Achieving Excellence
We are proud of our students as they achieve excellence. This fortnight, we acknowledge the marvellous success of Coomera Springs State School students at:
- South Coast Regional Track and Field Championships
- Beenleigh and Gold Coast Eisteddfod competition, with many firsts achieved
- National Schools Diving Competition
- Commitment to rehearsals for our bi-annual Musical, Superstan

Coomera Springs State School - 1:1 iPad Program - Parent iPad Insurance Guide
Check your iPads AppleCare+ Insurance Cover Status
Parents can confirm the status of their iPads AppleCare insurance cover at any-time by entering the iPads Serial Number at the website below:
Please keep any shown AppleCare expiry dates written down for your own reference.
https://checkcoverage.apple.com/au/en/
Note: if the above link doesn’t open correctly, please Copy the link and paste it in a different web browser (e.g Safari, Google Chrome, FireFox)
Or alternatively, you can simply type “Check Applecare” in Google to reach the above website. - If no AppleCare cover is present, it means your iPads AppleCare insurance has expired
Check your iPads CompNow Tablet Insurance Cover Status (if applicable)
For those families who purchased the optional 3yr CompNow Tablet Insurance cover for their iPad purchase, you may check your remaining cover status via the website below:
https://www.compnow.com.au/customer-dashboard/
- Simply click “Make an Insurance Claim” and type your iPad serial number
- If no insurance cover is present BUT you did purchase the 3yr CompNow insurance with your iPad Bundle, please email your classroom teacher. Your classroom teacher will forward your request to the school’s I.T. department, who will in turn, investigate this and assist with rectifying any discrepancy.
- Also please note, if it has been 3 years since your date of purchase – your insurance cover will have expired.
How to find your iPad Serial Number
- On your iPad - Go to Settings App > click the General tab > click the About tab.
- Look for your device's Serial Number.
- Make note of the number.
Parent 1:1 iPads – Warranty/Accidental Damage Process:
The school can assist families who have active AppleCare insurance AND/OR active CompNow Tablet insurance, if accidental damage or warranty issues are present on the student’s iPad.
If you have checked your insurance status AND you would like the school to assist with lodging a claim; simply notify your classroom teacher regarding any accidental damage or hardware faults present on your iPad.
The classroom teacher will forward your request to the School’s I.T. Department.
The School’s I.T. Department will then investigate your claim and will contact you.
If your iPad is covered under AppleCare OR CompNow tablet insurance, the school will advise you on the cost of replacement, timeframes and back up procedure. The school may also communicate to you to Sign out of iCloud prior to claim lodgement (if applicable).
No claims can be submitted if iCloud is signed in to a parents Apple ID. iCloud must be Signed out first – this must be done by the parent/owner of the Apple ID.
For parent reference - the school utilises CompNow (Apple Authorised Reseller) as our main handler for AppleCare insurance claims.
The school simply acts as a lodgement centre and delivery point for your claim. The school does not receive payments for lodged insurance claims. Any lodged claims will be invoiced to the parent directly (via email) from CompNow who handles the actual claim and replacement of iPads.
The school makes no money by offering this service to families. All financial transactions are between you and CompNow (vendor).
Accidental Insurance Cost transparency – school lodged AppleCare claims will cost parents (Apple’s Service fee – subject to $65 and the CompNow’s Courier fee – including delivery from the school and return delivery to the school of iPad - $19) = $84 total will be invoiced to you from CompNow for a new iPad.
CompNow insurance claims cost – parents will simply pay the insurance excess as highlighted in the insurance policy ($100 + $19 courier fee) = $119 total will be invoiced to you from CompNow for a new iPad
For iPads covered under AppleCare insurance – a total of 2 claims can be made over the 2 year period of cover. This is an Apple policy, not CompNow or the Schools. Please refer to the below Apple website for reference. Your AppleCare insurance cover starts from date of purchase. The insurance window is present for 2 years from date of purchase.
https://www.apple.com/au/support/products/ipad.html
Parent 1:1 iPads – Warranty/Accidental Damage Process (Continued)
- Parents also have the option to directly take their iPads into to an Apple Store (located at Robina or Carindale). Please remember to check your AppleCare status before making the journey. Refer to information earlier in this document which highlights this process.
- If your iPad serial number is covered under AppleCare insurance, Apple will be more than happy to process your claim and replace the iPad in store.
- Again, they will charge you the $65 Apple Service fee for the new iPad.
Please Note:
Any new iPad received or processed through AppleCare/CompNow insurance, MUST be delivered to the School’s I.T. Department. The new iPad will be enrolled back into the School’s iPad Management System so our School apps to be redeployed to the device. If applicable, any “Home” apps can be reinstalled for free via the App Store using the Apple ID previously associated to the original iPad. This process can be done when the new iPad returns home with the student.
If you have any doubts, please email your child’s teacher. The classroom teacher will forward your correspondence to the school’s I.T. Department.

Book Fair Coming Here!
Our Book Fair this year will be held this term, leading up to our Book Week, Book Parade and Born to Read Celebrations.
The Fair will be held during week 5, starting on Tuesday 13th August until Friday 16th August.
The Book Fair will be opened before school, lunchtimes and after school.
The times will be stated on the notices that will be displayed in the classrooms.
This will be a lovely time for our parents and carers to come in with your child to purchase a book to read together. Adding 10mins or more of reading every day matters and develops vocabulary to over 1 million words.
Notices will be handed out to classes to show the types of books that will be available.
Please note once again, to make it easy for payments, you can pay either by credit/debit card, cash or by paying online and sending the order form back to school to purchase your item.
Thank you for your understanding and I hope this will be easier for all. If you have any queries, please contact me in the IZONE Centre (Library).
Born2Read – 21st August
Save the Date - Born2Read will be held at 9am on the 21st of August!
There will be a student character parade, school-wide picnic and more. Further information will be coming from classroom teachers soon.
Happy Reading

2nd Hand Book Store
We are also having a 2nd hand book stall, so please if you have any books at home that you no longer want, it would be appreciated if you could donate these - send them to your children's class or drop them into the tuckshop. All money raised on this day is also going towards fundraising.
Air-conditioning Update
As you are all aware, we are hoping to install air conditioning to 8 of our year 5 and 6 classrooms in the coming holidays. However, we are still approximately $8,200.00 away from achieving our goal, so please if you can donate or be part of any of the fundraisers we are holding this term, we would appreciate it greatly.
P & C Meeting
Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday 14th August in the Staff room (next to the library) at 3.30pm. We hope to see you all there.
