Principal’s Report
Welcome to Term 3, 2019. This term is looking like being a real highlight for the Coomera Springs SS community. After much preparation and rehearsals, the school musical will be presented towards the end of this term. This is looking like being a very special and most memorable event for the school which happens once every two years.
In addition to the musical, we have Book Fair, Book Week and a range of other events and special focus occasions scheduled for Term 3, 2019.
Student Reporting
All families received student progress reports at the end of last term. We encourage families to read these reports carefully and use them to assist with feedback and goal setting for students. We are pleased to see that more students are receiving a C, B or A in key subject areas as well as more students receiving an A or a B level assessment. The vast majority of students (84%: English; 89% Mathematics and 91% Science) achieved a C, B or A level in key learning areas. This is an improvement in many areas.
I encourage all families to use the student report as important feedback and a tool to have discussions with regards to ‘next steps’ to improve in student learning. The ratings relate to achievement against the Australian Curriculum. Families can find more information here.
School Opinion Surveys
Our school is committed to being the best possible school for Coomera Springs students that it can be. Part of our work in continual improvement is obtaining feedback through opinion surveys. School Opinion Surveys will be conducted during August. Please see this information on School Opinion Surveys.
School Uniform Shop
The school Uniform Shop has now transitioned to new arrangements from the start of Term 3. The opening days are now Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:00am until 10:30am. The management of the Uniform Shop is transitioning to become a School Locker Campus Store. Over time, families will see many benefits of this change to provide a one-stop-shop for school requisites. Please see the information on our School Locker Campus Store in this newsletter.
Year 5 Camp
Our Year 5 students enjoyed a wonderful camp at the Currumbin Valley Farm School last week. The weather was a little cool whilst the sky was clear, and they experienced magnificent days working on their rescue theme. The students enjoyed the food provided, the new cabins and a range of new and challenging experiences.
Thank you to the staff members who gave up their family time to look after the Year 5 students on camp.

Access details for the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be sent home with students this week. The survey can be completed via computers, tablets or smart phones with internet connection.
Survey queries or requests for translations can be directed to Petrina Lewis on telephone 07 5519 5300 or email plewi27@eq.edu.au

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) is an annual collection of information about Australian school students with disability.
The NCCD enables schools, education authorities and governments to better understand the needs of students with disability and how they can be best supported at school.
The Australian government collects data on students who are enrolled at all Australian schools on the national census date. In 2019, the census date for the national data collection is 2nd August 2001.

Book Fair Coming Here!
Our Book Fair this year will be held this term, leading up to our Book Week, Book Parade and Born to Read Celebrations.
The Fair will be held during week 5, starting on Tuesday 13th August until Friday 16th August.
The Book Fair will be opened before school, lunchtimes and after school.
The times will be stated on the notices that will be displayed in the classrooms.
This will be a lovely time for our parents and carers to come in with your child to purchase a book to read together. Adding 10mins or more of reading everyday matters and develops vocabulary to over a 1 million words.
Notices will be handed out to classes to show the types of books that will be available.
Please note once again, to make it easy for payments, you can pay either by credit/debit card, cash or by paying online and sending the order form back to school to purchase your item.
Thank you for your understanding and I hope this will be easier for all. If you have any queries, please contact me in the IZONE Centre (Library).
Born2Read – 21st August
Save the Date - Born2Read will be held at 9am on the 21st of August!
There will be a student character parade, school-wide picnic and more. Further information will be coming from classroom teachers soon.
Happy Reading

Air Conditioning Update
We are hoping to get our year 5 and 6 classrooms fitted with air conditioning during our next school holidays in September. As you can all imagine this isn't cheap. To give you an idea of cost, we are looking at approximately $46,500 to complete the 2-story building, a total of 16 classes.
I will keep you updated as the P & C work with the school on this project.
Uniform Shop
Just a reminder that School Locker has now taken over the uniform shop. The hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8am till 10.30am.
No uniform orders can be placed through Flexischools any longer.
The P & C have quite a lot of excess uniforms left in our office which need to be sold ASAP. We are in the process of doing a stocktake and in the coming weeks we will be having a major sale. All uniform items which the P & C hold will be sold at a discounted price. Any monies from this sale will be going towards the school and not P & C fundraising.
If you have any questions, or are needing anything urgently, please see Vivienne in the Tuckshop.

At present our amazing P & C Treasurer, Vivienne Franklin spends every school day in the tuckshop alongside Angela, volunteering. We cannot thank Vivienne enough! Also, a MASSIVE thank you to all our volunteers. If it wasn't for our wonderful volunteers, our tuckshop would not exist.

Meetings are held every 2nd Wednesday of the month.
