Principal’s Report

Athletics Carnival

Thank you to our families and students for a wonderful Athletics Carnival. We were blessed with fabulous weather and congratulate our students for great participation and wonderful respectful and sporting behaviour.

Before School Arrangements

I take this opportunity to clarify the options open to families for before school at Coomera Springs State School.

School starts at 8:40am and students are expected to be at school by that time. Many families need to leave for work earlier than this time and our school has arrangements in place to ensure your child/ren are being supervised.

Before School Care is available on site from 6:30 am. Students will be provided with appropriate supervision, care and activities. This is available through Camp Australia. Students who arrive at school between 8:20am and 8:40am are to be in the Tuckshop area where supervision is provided. There is no supervision provided prior to 8:20am as staff arrive and prepare for the day.

Music Showcase Evening

Our school has wonderful excellence programs in the Arts and Music. The development of a love and competence in the Arts is important to young people and is considered to support the development of their other academic skills.

Our Community Creating Futures

Since arriving at Coomera Springs eight weeks ago, I have been particularly struck with the school motto: Our Community Creating Futures. Our community is our positive community of students, staff and families working together to support every student. Our goal always is to nurture young people in a way that prepares them for a wonderful future life throughout the 21st Century.

We are no longer a school just for the 21st Century but a school for the mid-21st Century as these young people will be contributing to our community until the 22nd Century arrives.

Thank you for your contribution to Our Community Creating Futures for every wonderful Coomera Springs student.

Kind Regards,

Chris McMillan
Principal

Kokoda

Congratulations to our Year 6 Kokoda Teams who completed the gruelling 17.5km hike in fantastic time. Their team spirit, mateship and endurance was exceptional. The community is very proud of their efforts.

A big thank you to Mr Leigh Fletcher, Mrs Lauren Chiapetta, Mr Ben Morris, Miss Madison McCreedy and Miss Stacey Andrews for putting in hours of training and organising each team. Also, a big thank you to Coomera City Centre for making it all possible by sponsoring the team’s entry fee and shirts.

NAIDOC Showcase Exhibition

Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future.

Red Nose Day – 28th June

Friday 28th of June the CSSS Student Council have chosen to acknowledge and support Red Nose Day. Wear Red for the day for a gold coin donation and for another gold coin you can get your nose painted at the tuck shop from 8:00am - 8:30am.

The Woolworths Earn and Learn Program is back

This community program enables schools and early learning centres throughout Australia to earn educational resources simply through the community shopping at Woolworths.

From now until 25th June when you shop at Woolworths, you can collect Earn and Learn Points. For every $10 you spend you will receive one earn and learn sticker. So start collecting now and drop your stickers into the Woolworths collection box in the office.

Let’s stick together and make this one the biggest one yet!

Music Showcase Evening

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the students, parents and teachers who helped to make our Musical Showcase Evening such a great success last night! It was wonderful to see and hear the talent on display. Coomera Springs has some fantastic young musicians, and we are off to a great start this year.

Eisteddfod Update

Our Year 5 and 6 students in the Senior Band, Senior Strings and Drumline received permission notes this week for the Beenleigh Eisteddfod (held at the Logan Entertainment Centre). These 3 groups will be performing on Tuesday 23rd July - Week 2 of next term. Please complete the permission notes ASAP and return them to Mrs Murray by Monday 24th June (BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS).

Parents please note:

For our performance times at the Beenleigh Eisteddfod, the times shown below are either section start times or the time we have been asked to arrive by – it is impossible to predict exactly how long the sections will go, or what time our students will actually be on stage. On the permission note I have given an APPROX time for performance, but the ACTUAL time on stage may be earlier or later. The only way to guarantee seeing your child perform is to be there from the time we arrive and be prepared to stay for as long as is necessary. There is sometimes quite a bit of waiting around, but this is entirely out of our control.

Tuesday 23rd July – Senior Band at Logan Entertainment Centre
(8.30am start time)

Tuesday 23rd July – Senior Strings at Logan Entertainment Centre
(9.30am arrival time, performing in the 3rd section (APPROX 10.30am but may be earlier or later)

Tuesday 23rd July – Drumline at Logan Entertainment Centre
(9.30am arrival time, performing in the 4th section (APPROX 11am but may be earlier or later)

Students in the Junior Choir (Prep – Yr 2), Junior Band (Yr 4) and Intermediate Strings (Yr 4) will be performing at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod in Week 4 – 6. Exact performance details for these 3 groups will be advised when known, and permission slips will be issued.

MUSIC SHIRTS

Our performing ensembles look amazing in their Music Shirts. If your child is performing in the Music Showcase Concert and does not have a Music Shirt, now is the time to order! Music Shirts are available from the uniform shop for $30 and can be worn to school on Thursdays in 2019.
