Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
A short newsletter article this week, being the final week of our school term.
At our whole school assembly this week we celebrated the term that was. Those reflective moments always make me catch my breath to see just how much we squeeze into a school term. It's also a great way to remember the fun that our students have in their learning journey.
Some of the memorable highlights for me this term have been the way in which our whole school community embraces our Book Character Parade. Your enthusiasm and commitment continue to make this event a particularly exciting one for me.
The school musical 'Kids at Sea'. If you didn't get a chance to come along and watch this musical, I am sorry to say that you missed out on a piece of Coomera Springs magic. The nerves were high on opening night and the sighs of excitement were loud on closing night.
There are not enough words to describe adequately the pride I have in the students who partook in this event. There were months and months of preparation, rehearsals, fittings, learning dances etc. that were required from our students. So to get that level of commitment at this age is nothing short of spectacular.
We had many of our staff, and some of our parents who also put in an enormous effort to bring this musical to life.
There is something special about Coomera Springs, and when you see this level of achievement, it makes you proud to be a part of this school.
We have also celebrated our 3rd year of Born to Read. A great community event to foster and promote the love of reading. Our many thanks to the community businesses that have supported this event and assisted in providing so many of the prizes.
CHANGE TO ASSEMBLIES IN TERM 4
In Term 4 we are moving to a fortnightly assembly schedule. Whilst assemblies will still be held at the same time, they will only run on even weeks.
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
This Friday we conclude our term and begin our Spring Break. I wish all of our families a safe and enjoyable break away. School will resume on Tuesday 3rd October.
Kind Regards
Martine Gill

HoSES News
SEP Garden Project
Last Friday Kylie from Oxenford Bunnings came out to work with our students and donated some new soil as well as variety of fruits, vegetables and flowers to re-stock our garden beds.
The students had a wonderful time and worked extremely hard, preparing the garden beds, clearing the weeds and turning the soil.
We planted lavender, rosemary, strawberries, snow peas, corn, carrots as well as some marigold flowers to help keep all of the unwanted pests away.
The students will be part of a garden club, responsible for maintaining the garden, watering and weeding. Hopefully, we will be able to harvest some yummy fresh fruits and vegetables soon to use in our cooking.
Save the Date: GALA DAY Term 4

Music Shirts
Our performing ensembles look amazing in their Music Shirts. If your child is in Band, Strings, Ukulele Band or Choir now is the time to order your Music Shirt for 2017 – available from the uniform shop for $28.
Music Shirts can be worn to school on Fridays in 2017.
Prep parents please be advised that the Music Shirts are only available from Size 6 upwards (it is not possible to make the shirt in a smaller size as the process would alter our design). Prep students in the Junior Choir should purchase a Size 6 shirt and wear it tucked into their formal bottom half.
Eisteddfod Wrap Up
We had five of our CSSS Music groups perform at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod this term, and all five of our groups were awarded Honours – well done to the students of the Intermediate and Senior Strings, Junior and Senior Band, and the Junior Choir! A big thank you to the parents of these performers for supporting this wonderful performance opportunity.
Instrumental Music – Beginner Workshop
Last week our Junior Band and Junior Strings students participated in a full day Beginner Workshop at Upper Coomera State College Performing Arts Centre - the students had the opportunity to work with several different Instrumental instructors, and to perform with a large combined ensemble in the Culminating Concert – well done Beginners! Let’s get on a roll and keep the practice up so that we can continue making great music for the rest of the year.
KIDS AT SEA 2017!
Congratulations to our Musical Cast on a wonderful performance! We are all so proud of every single one of you. Thanks to parents for supporting our rehearsals and performances, and to ALL the teachers who helped behind the scenes. A HUGE thank you to Mrs Sue Marriott and Mrs Maxine Cowey for all the hours of work you have put into costuming our musical, Ms Talbot for the amazing set designs, Mrs Eckford and Mrs Williamson for Directing the Musical, Miss McFarlane, Miss McCreedy, Mrs McEwan and Mr Lewerissa for teaching the dances, Mrs Hodder for sourcing all those wonderful props, and Mrs Raffin for recording our singing which sounded so amazing in the performance. So many teachers came and helped out with working bees and it was greatly appreciated. You can all be very proud of the wonderful musical we have produced! Well done!
DVDs of the Musical will be available early next term for those who have ordered this week, we are all looking forward to seeing the show one more time!
Breakfast is Served at Coomera Springs!
We have noticed a large number of students in the mornings either buying unhealthy food options at Hungry Jack’s (Slushie’s and ice cream) or eating their lunch whilst they are waiting for school to begin. We have opened up a breakfast menu to help combat these issues.
- Breakfast starts at 7am with cereal, toast, muffins and fruit available as well as juice.
- Wednesday is pancake day!
- Prices as below:
Bowl of cereal (Rice Bubbles, Cornflakes or Nutrigrain) |
$1.50 |
Piece of Fruit |
50c |
2 slices of toast/English muffin with spread |
$1 |
Juice |
$1 per cup |
Pancakes (Wednesday only) |
$2 |
We are hoping that the menu will increase and we have more special days as we get busier. We are hoping that by offering a healthy breakfast the kids will have a great start to their day and won’t tuck into their lunches leaving them hungry later in the day.
Volunteers Needed
We are again asking our parent community for anyone who has some spare time to help.
We are needing volunteers to help with:
School Banking (Tuesday mornings)
Frankie’s Tuckerbox ( any time between Mon-Fri)
Frankie’s Fabrics Uniform Shop (Mon, Wed & Fri mornings 8.15 – 9am)
If you can spare some time please contact Kylie at the tuckshop or the uniform shop.
P & C meeting
Our next P & C Meeting will be held on Wednesday 11th October 2017 at 3:15pm in the resource room next to the library.
