The Coomera Springs Positive Behaviour for Learning Committee is seeking a parent of the school to join our committee. If you would be interested in nominating yourself please email Taylor Haley at thale22@eq.edu.au.

Coomera Springs State School Mo Bro’s 2017

This November 14 of our male staff are raising awareness for men’s health by participating in Movember. Throughout November you may see the male teachers rocking some glorious facial hair all in the name of charity. We will be holding a fundraiser on the 22nd November where the students will be able to get a Mo of their choice painted on by one of the Mo Bro’s for a gold coin donation. We are also selling raffle tickets to go in the draw to win a Manper (male hamper) with goods and prizes to the value of $500. Keep an eye out for them at the front of the school Monday, Wednesday & Fridays before school or outside the tuckshop. They will also be available at the Prep BBQ on the 17th November. Unfortunately due to legal reasons we are only able to sell tickets to people over the age of 18, therefore parents will have to come in to purchase them.

If you want to donate directly to the Coomera Springs State School Movember page follow the link below. We all appreciate every donation as it all supports men’s health.

Graduation

As the year fast approaches its end we move toward a very busy time full of many events to mark in our calendars. One such event is our Year 6 Graduation. This year will are fortunate to be celebrating and acknowledging our Year 6 student at Movieworld on Monday the 7th December from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

Remembrance Day

This Friday our school will commemorate Remembrance Day. At 11:00am on the 11th day of the 11th month we will stop and observe one minute silence in memory of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in all wars and armed conflicts.

This year 11 November marks the 98th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Remembrance Day in Australia is dedicated to Australians who died as a result of war, particularly from World War I onwards. A minute of silence is dedicated to the deceased, especially for soldiers who died fighting to protect the nation. Remembrance Day is annually observed on November 11 although it is not a public holiday.

TIPS FOR BEING A NURTURING PARENT

Being a parent is the most important role you can ever have.

Children need to feel loved and treasured in order to develop to their full potential. Children learn by example; they learn by watching what you say and do all the time, every day.

  • Tell them regularly that they are special, loved and wanted.
  • Make sure you hug and cuddle often.
  • Choose your words with care when disciplining your child; children need love, even whenthey misbehave.
  • What you say to your children can determine how they feel about themselves, and how they feel about you. Children tend to believe what their parents or carers tell them; if the words are hurtful, they may develop low self-esteem.
  • When they misbehave remember to tell them it is the behaviour you do not like; criticise the
  • behaviour, not the child. Make sure your child knows that bad behaviour won’t mean loss of your love even for a little while.
  • Harsh, hurtful, abusive words can have very negative effects, and can result in children believing they are useless, no good and will never amount to anything.
  • Children learn right from wrong by copying; if you hit them, they‘ll think it is okay to hit too.
  • Be constructive in your criticism; talk to children about how they could do things differently.
  • Show children what they should do – not just what they shouldn’t do.
  • It is easier as parents to see the bad behaviour, and not notice the good behaviour. Learn to look for good behaviour and let your child know how pleased you are. Let them know when they do things well by using encouraging words.
  • Praise their smallest achievements.
  • Acknowledge, and respect their talents.
  • Make time for your children, find out what is happening in their lives, how they feel, what they think. Help them feel heard and understood.
  • Take time to have fun together and get to know more about your child.
  • Let them know you are available to talk with them about their feelings and worries.
  • Encourage children to share their feelings, and share your feelings with them too.
  • Stop what you are doing and listen when your child talks to you; respect and acknowledge their feelings. These actions give powerful messages to children about how important they are to you.
  • Children think some amazing thoughts. If your child knows you will listen, you are more likely to find out what is going on.
  • Try to address any stress in the family. Children are sensitive to adult tension and may misbehave as a result.

Remember to use words that HELP not hurt.

TELL CHILDREN YOU LOVE THEM – THEY NEED TO KNOW THAT!

SPORTS QUIZ QUESTION

Who is the reigning rugby league World Cup holders?

Healthy fact:

Drinking water is the best way to quench your thirst. Even better, it doesn’t come with all the sugar and energy (kilojoules) found in fruit juice drinks, soft drinks, sports drinks and flavored mineral waters.

Drinking water instead of sweetened drinks also prevents dental problems, while the fluoride found in tap water can help strengthen teeth and bones.
